How serious of a mistake did I make??? I admit that I was careless...so, don't lecture me too harshly.

I did not double check my powder dispenser and ended up loading 4.9 grains of Bullseye in my .38 Special with 148 grain double-ended beveled wadcutters. I was in a rush and did not do my normal random weight check.

Anyway, "OUCH !!!!". What was supposed to be a nice target load ended up really stinging my hand. I was shooting my Ruger Speed-Six and even at that gun weight the recoil was stout.

Was I tempting fate, here? What kind of pressure was being generated?

Thanks

Well, in a .357 Mag case, it would be a low end starting load.

WAG = Maybe around 26,000 as opposed to the recommended 13,000 in a .38 Spl case?

Don't do that again!
You got away with it in a strong .357 Ruger.
Might not be so lucky in an old .38 Special.

The problem is all the bullet is in the case & driving pressures up qwikly !!!!

I`d say rc made a good guess at pressures or even + a little.

Do the cases eject OK ??? cases will probably be toast if ya shoot em .

How many ya got to pull ????

Not Fun !!!

Slow Down .

Been There !

If the bullets were about .57" long and you were seating them nearly flush, you were generating about 40,000 psi at the peak and probably driving them at around 1100 fps. In a really strong gun such as the Speed Six, you were really pushing it, but only about 14% over max. If you have any more, you should definitely pull them. That round should have been loaded to about 2.9g rather than 4.9g.
