How to break into a trigger lock

Despite their advertisements, trigger locks are generally pretty easy to defeat. Especially that kind. I'm pretty sure I cut mine off with an angle grinder in about 10 seconds one time. Some big wire/chain cutters would probably do the trick too.

Hell, a dremel would probably work for cheap too. Not sure.

Dope

Here is a picture of the lock. It is a trigger "block," and not a cable.

DOH. Sorry I clicked your link and saw the first pic and assumed that's what it was.

Not sure about that one. Personally, I'd just drill it, I'm pretty sure the lock cylinder is just brass. Hard to say.

definitely drill it. It's the best way to make sure you don't damage the firearm or mar its finish.

edit; You could probably take it to a locksmith and get it taken off in a few minutes for a couple bucks.

Trigger locks are value-less!

This is irony in this thread. It's kind of hard for anyone to say now that trigger locks have no value whatsoever....:)

A locksmith can open that for you in about 30 seconds. Those locks are pretty easy to pick open. They will charge you about 25-50$ though. Drilling might be a little trickier if you dont know where to drill. Also there is a chance of the drill slipping and hitting your shotgun.

A locksmith can also keep the locks from being destroyed. You may be able to save them in case you find the keys or can get a replacement set.

You can pick it yourself with two paperclips!

Bend about 1/8" of one at a 90-degree angle, and use this one to apply a twisting pressure to the lock while you use the other, 1/8" bent at about a 45-degree angle, to trip the pins. The twisting from the first one will hold the pins where they need to be once you get them there.

Shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes the first time. 30 seconds when you've figured out how to do it.

Kinda like this...

It can be done and its pretty easy once you know how much pressure to apply. But learning how much tension to use takes some time and practice. A paperclip also bends a lot when applying tension.

I saw a guy at a gun show recently who was selling seta of lock picking tools demonstrate opening up a trigger lock. Took him about 2 seconds using one or two of his picks.

12ga slug will do the deed pretty good. Of course there may be consequences. Hardened drill bit with a good drill will probably be your best course of action.

Dude, you own guns, don't you have a drill press? :D Mail the remains to Mayor Feinty in DC. Tell him you had to ask the burglar to hold on a sec while you went to the garage, you lost your keys. The burglar said that 'Imminent harm was pending" so legally you were cool.

Go out and buy a couple more locks. Chance are the keys will fit your lock. I have many of the same style, and only need 2 keys to fit all of them. But they need to be very similar.

Before you rush out and buy a bunch of locks, look and see if there's a number under the key hole. If so, go search through the locks at Wally World or your favorite gun shop and buy one with the same number if possible. Now you'lll have two locks that work with the same key.

This Lock's key number is P733.

I saw the video of picking it,, and was going to suggest the same thing,, simple lock, easy to open.. Shoot try a pawn shop for locksmith set.. Bet you find one and while there you can shop for more guns.. :)

Just be careful, if you decide to drill, not to mar the finish. I picked up a brand new P226 for a song because the previous owner lost the keys to his trigger lock. The guy who drilled it off let the bit slip and it put a slight bur on the trigger guard. A little black paint and you couldn't notice it anymore. It sure didn't bother me for the price I got it at :D

Just a warning to those with lock pick sets:

Many states have laws which limit the ownership of picks to locksmiths, repo men, dealerships, etc....

Might want to check your state's laws before owning them. If you get caught with them, and it's illegal, you will get charged.

well i lost my key same thing shot gun and i got a drill and just drill in it a little and you will her it pop so yea

Drill away with adecent carbide bit and she'll pop right off. Go straight through the keyhole.
