For those unfamiliar with the Daewoo pistols, they feature an unusual action. They have a double action mechanism (trigger will cock and fire pistol, then revert to single action), a manual safety that can be operated with the pistol cocked or uncocked, no decocker, and a hammer that can be lowered by just pushing it forward while leaving the mainspring compressed.

When the hammer is pushed forward, a very light pull of the trigger will bring the hammer back to the cocked position and then fire with the single action pull weight.

So would you carry it with:
  • Hammer down, uncocked (this would require manual decocking  )
  • Hammer down, cocked
  • Hammer back

And with the safety on or off?

Probably hammer down, uncocked, safety off. To safely decock the hammer, place the thumb of your non-firing hand between the hammer and slide, hold the hammer back with the thumb of your firing hand, pull the trigger.

Release the trigger and lower the hammer with the thumb on the hammer while removing the thumb between the hammer and firing pin.

Releasing the trigger prior to lowering the hammer will engange the safety (assuming Dawoo has a built in safety) that will keep the hammer from striking the firing pin in the event it slips from under your thumb.

Condition 5, Hammer down, Safety On, for "Fast-Action" aka. SA mode...A flick of the safety will have your DH40 or DP51 in rapid fire...:)

When I carried mine, it was cocked, hammer down, in a thumb-break OWB holster.

It's now protecting my daughter and her husband.

When I had mine, I carried it cocked, hammer down, safety on.

Then, I could just flick the safety off, and squeeze a nice, light trigger pull.

Then, after touching off a round, I would lock the slide back, remove the magazine, and try to clear the double-feed that would always result after almost every shot. :cuss: :(

Still made for one nice shot, though!

Quit using those S&W mags....:D
