Howa Trakr 22 Magnum

Considering it's a citadel offering, and all of the other ones I've seen have been Taurus/Rossi, I expect that's the same basic action as a Mossberg 817, but with a chassis style stock.

Ruger American Predator in 22WMR is the way to go. I have one and it's great. Threaded barrel and I pop squirrels with mine from my back porch inside the subdivision.

Man I wish I'd seen this before I ordered the Trakr. The only Ruger I'd seen with a threaded barrel was the RPRR.

Id run the howa also, tho only because ive had an 802 that shot really well.

My .17hmr RPR shoots well and the only extraction issues ive had are with oooold hornady, which splits almost every time.

I picked them both up today and the Trakr is nice very light but I like the looks of the Ruger way better.
Went straight to the range mounted the 6-18X44mm Vortex Crossfire II and the Griffin Optimus Micro 7 rounds to get a good zero and shot this 5 shot group at 25 yards (max at this range) 20220408_123501.jpg
I don't see myself keeping the Trakr.

The American Predator Rimfires have a history of extraction issues. I'd give the Howa a chance.
I've got a sample size of 2 and have not experienced any extraction issues with either to this point. And I'm not sure how the Predator models have a history when the action is the same as non-Predator models and those models don't have any significant issues with extraction.

Just my experience, but my RAR Predator in .22 Mag does have some extraction problems. Haven't shot it enough to really decide if it's ammo specific or maybe just a dirty chamber. I have a variety of .22 Mag ammo to try - maybe just find one that works and stick with it.

Well it happens in manufacturing that they'll run a batch of let's say extractors that are on the edge of "spec", this batch hits the production line when they're building predators add in a little internet and a few guns turns into a "history".

Not sure I buy into that. But feel free to share where all these issues are being documented.

I am sure the standards do as well, but they don't come up much in conversation. 3 of my 4 Americans bungle extraction. The one that doesn't is the 22LR target model, and its accuracy is unimpressive. American extraction issues are often discussed here: https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/ruger-american-rimfire.297/

It's a damn extractor. There's no magic in getting them to work correctly. My 77/22s have never failed me...ever. In surfing many forums, I have never heard of 77/22 extraction issues.

Here's a recent thread from another forum. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...91/gonew/1/ruger-american-rim-fire-fte#UNREAD

So it's not just specific to the Predator version then like I said?
Ruger has probably the best customer service and warranty in the business. I'd want to know how many people have utilized their warranty and exhausted that process.

Ruger has far from the best customer service in the business. Quality customer service starts with delivering a product that works. Ruger has failed me and many others on that front. 7-8 failures for me. They generally do a very good job of getting it right the second time around. Lord knows they get enough experience.

Quality assurance/quality control are completely different from customer service. I'll still stand by my statement that Ruger has probably the best customer service in the business and that's been the general consensus for at least the last 40 years if not longer. Now if you are talking about quality control, that's a separate thing altogether. I'll be done now, but FAR, FAR greater number of happy Ruger customers than dissatisfied ones. But I can tell you've got an axe to grind with them.

And by customer service, you are referring to problem resolution after the sale. Some people see that as the whole of customer service. I don't. The best customer service that Ruger can provide to me is to deliver a product that works the way it's supposed to. I don't have an axe to grind. I feel a duty to share my experience. Ruger richly deserves it.

Which rifle goes with the group? Trakr or Ruger?
