How's that wood feel? (a grip question)

I am considering getting a pair of Hogue wood grips with finger grooves for my Ruger sp101.

I have always had rubber grips. How does the wood handle with regular .38 loads and magnum loads? Is the gun comfortable or does wood just transfer all that recoil right into the hand? What about controllability. Too slippery? Or just right?

Thanks for your input.

I did the same thing as you're thinking. I love the Hogue rubber grips. The wooden ones caused pain in the knuckle on the thumb of my shooting hand. The side of the knuckle on that thumb squeezes against the grip and just gets pounded by the recoil. I ended up switching back to the rubber ones. Other than that I had no other issue with them.
