I did a search and didn't find any new info on the Remi VTR and am wondering how its holding up so far. How is the accuracy and handling? Any thoughts on the trianle barrel? I am very curious about this rifle. I think it would be a great hunting rifle in a 308. Its light enough to carry and still has a Varmit stlye barrel for accuracy. And the ammo is much cheaper than the 300wm I'm shooting now. So if there are any VTR owners out there let me know what you think of your gun so far. If I do get one it would be in a 308 and would be used for elk and smaller sized game. Thanks in advance for all your input.

I held one once...

Could be more of a gee whiz marketing plan.

Like you, have to wait an see.

I finally shot my .308 VTR, and I love it. I put about 50 rounds through it and had the holes touching at 100yds. It could probally do better but I don't shoot that much any more. Range is about 1hr 20min from me and the lack of time and money for gas to drive that far keeps me from shooting as much as I want to. NJ doesn't have many ranges you can shoot a rifle without being a member so I have to travel to a public range in PA. But all I can say is I love it. I have it set up with a Harris bipod and TruGlo 6-24x44 scope.I haven't found anything bad about it yet.

I have one in 22.250 after sighting it in I proceeded to take out about 30 Gofers.

So far Ive only been able to get 1 inch groups at 100yards. Mostly due to shooter error, I tend to string my shots.

I put Harris bi-pods on and a real cool
but stock pad and pouch combo green in color. OD green Burris 3x9 w/balisticplex. I have reloading dies but have not used them yet.

I've got a really crappy scope on mine at the moment, due to a lack of optic funds, so nothing better than about 1 MOA so far. Also think it might need to be properly bedded..

I was wondering about the ported barrel as well. I would think that with the ports on top it would help with muzzle jump. I've never shot a gun with a break system on it so I'm just using what knowledge I have of simple physics. If the blast is going up it should "hold" the barrel down. As far as the barrel, gimmick or not it's kind of cool looking. And as long as it does it's job I don't care what it looks like. It does make me wonder what if any benefit the barrel has being triangular versus full round. Whatever I guess. If a guy didn't like the stock what options would be the best for this gun. I would like to keep weight to a minimum. Well thanks for all the input so far I appreciate it.

I think it does help, however Ive never shot 22.250 in non ported barrel.

The reason I think it does a good job, I find it very easy to watch the target during and after firing.

...TRIANGULAR BARRELS?!

COOL!

I, eh, tried to model the scenario in solidworks. (FEA)
I have no clue *** I'm doing, but I tried to do something reasonable, and this is what I got:

*******

I got surprising results (?):
2) The barrels deflected .26 (triangular) and .31" (round)
3) The deflection of the triangular barrel wasn't really sensitive upon the direction of the load.

Barrels where:
a) .6" diameter "alloy steel" stock with a .224" hole
b) triangular (sharp cornered) barrel with same cross sectional area

Barrels where restrained on the rear face. Loads were 100N applied perpendicular to the bore axis on the distant barrel face.

************

I'm not surprised that triangular barrel deflected less.
I don't know what I'm doing with this software. Salt results heavily.

************

Wait... those "displacement" numbers don't mean what I think they do, do they?
(sorry for the series of edits)

When I shot my .308 VTR I had the legs down on my Harris bipod. I had the stock in my shoulder and my finger the trigger with no weight or support on the front end and I had no muzzle jump at all. Wether people like the gun or not ,I feel I still made a good choice in buying it.

I got a VTR in 22-250 and love it!
the muzzle break is loud but absolutely no jump, or recoil.
I have gotten 1/2 MOA with handloads shooting off the harris bipod.
added a mag extender and put and NcStar 10-40-x50 illuminated rangefinding scope on it, along with the bipod its a pretty mean gun, I have fired about 500 rounds through it and havent had a problem yet.
its a great all around gun!

I did get some pretty funky barrel resonance with a few loads but other than that it has been a great gun. you can do a lot with it.

since this pic was taken I put lower Millet rings on the scope, so ignore the huge AR rings....

not quite the same crap stock thats on the SPS! the black overmold grips are actually rubberized and pretty comfortable and grippy.
