HS-6 & .38 Spcl

What's a/the mainstream "great" .38 Spcl powder for use with lead? I know I can use Titegroup but I hear it's temp (high) makes it susceptible to leading. Is that the case?

With proper bullet "fit" it leads no more than any other powder.

Find a copper chor-boy. a single strand wrapped around a brush or mop & it takes the leading out.
Copper is tougher than lead, but soft enough that the steel barrel is unharmed.

Be careful though - some of those imitation chor-boys are copper coated steel.
Those are no good.

Other powders for .38 Spl include Accurate #2, Bullseye, Unique and - someday if we ever find it again - Clay's Universal.

HS-6 in 38 special

Shot some this morning. Ash left from firing 5 rounds of HS-6 at 6.3 gr(Not +P, mistake above in post #27) with 158 gr cast lswc. WSPM used. At 50 yards, firing 5 shot groups- 7 1/4" and 6 3/4" and 4 3/4" using 2 hands. The groups are larger than with the "old" primers, but i feel it was more me. HS%206%20%2038%20spec_zpslxq1thst.jpg There are better powders to use, HS-6 is * to dirty for me. More shooting changed my mind.

If your shooting a good solid revolver, or a .357 mag. revolver, just take the charge up to +P maximum, apply a good roll crimp, and it should do just great. I've never had to use magnum primers though, it does just fine with a CCI-500.

Like I said, I've been using it for a long time, and it burns clean, and has been stellar regarding accuracy. FYI, I only load jacketed bullets.

HS-6 is to dirty

RC right again. Went to shoot the last 5 rounds of 50 today. The cylinder would not close. Soot between ejector star & cylinder. Shell were ejected with the correct muzzle up method. HS-6 is * to dirty with my load.
