I bought a couple of pounds of HS-6 the other day. What is your experience with HS6 in 9mm, 38 Special and 357 Magnum? Work well with medium to full power loads? Dirty? Accurate?

Good for full load 9MM. Too slow for .38 Spl. Will work for medium to medium plus .357 loads, but wont make it shine.

I've had good luck with .38 Special +P 158 grain LRN/LSWC loads. Its pretty consistent and accurate enough for my needs (IDPA and plinking). I've had equally good luck in 9x19mm. I haven't tried it in .357 Magnum.

HS-6 is one of, if not my favorite handgun powder. I like it especially because it's accurate with lead bullets as well as jacketed ones. When you load it up near the top end it's extremely clean and it's always accurate in my testing.

I won't use it in standard .38 Special rounds but it works very will in .38 Special +P rounds with heavy bullets. (like said above) It's also a good powder for medium to medium heavy .357 Magnum rounds. The more I use HS-6 the more I like it.

All of my reloading manuals show HS-6 to be one of the most efficient, lowest pressure for given velocity powders in 38 Spl. with heavier (158gr) boolits. Have been wanting to try it.

Very accurate in .357, 9mm, never loaded a 38:) Its a safe powder for pushing 9mm hard, but is a bit dirty, since the pressure is so low.

A below maximum 9mm load of HS6 metered well and made power factor for IDPA ESP but was the only powder I have ever had dirty enough to foul out a gun during the match. I used the last of mine for full power defense gun practice ammunition.

*NOTE* HS-6 can be very dirty but only when loaded light. When loaded up near the top end of the charge range it's very clean, like most powders.

Tried HS-6 in several of my handguns in various calibers. I don't have HS-6 on my powder shelf anymore...Just wouldn't cut it in any of my 9mmX19s, .38 Specials, .357 magnums or .45 ACPs...

Not sure what it will work good with...

I've used it in .38 Special +P loads with great success. Excellent accuracy and top velocity with lower pressure than anything else. Very clean even with standard primers so long as you are loading with 1 grain of the top loads. A great .38 Special +P powder. Looks to be a winner in .44 Special and will try that next.

Made up some wadcutter .38 Special loads at higher velocity, but not +P. Lots of unburned powder residue, so would not recommend it for other than top loads.

For medium-higher loads HS-6 has been my staple powder. Have gone through a few pounds with 125gr lead, plated, and FMJ, and accuracy is very nice. I've also found it meters very consistently.

Low power loads seem to cause problems in functioning and can suffer from not completely burning; in those cases, I've had better luck with WSF.

I don't reload 38/357, so can't advise there.

Even though this is an older thread, since it's back I might as well jump in since I like HS-6 so much... ;)

So, use HS-6 on higher velocity 9mm rounds and it will burn clean?

Is it flashy and loud like Power Pistol?
Yes, it will work well on high end 9mm ammo.

No, it's nowhere near as flashy as Power Pistol. As a matter of fact it's on the low end of the "flash scale" and produces lower pressures than most powders in it's burn rate range while delivering the same or superior velocities.

Funny powder. Use it for high end 9mm loads with polymer coated lead bullets.

In Glocks and CZ good clean load, little flash and good accuracy.

Run the same ammunition through my BHP and it becomes a dirty load with unburnt granules but velocity and accuracy still OK.

Don't understand why because the BHP chamber is about mid sized between the other two.

When I finish my current supply am going back to Universal which gives me more consistency, just doesn't meter as well.
