The SUV was actually an expedition not an explorer.

I was just happy he wasn't shooting a Glock.

I think he carried a two tone XD.

Agreed with most of the points made so far, he had the entire city to work in, and the best he can do is a row house with some storm shutters? I can see trying to have as many comforts as possible, to ward off insanity, but when you're the only human in a city of ravenous monsters, you can't count on being able to hide forever. The grenade part surprised me as well, given that he ended up obliterating his research data and the cure as well, so the other survivors would have to reverse engineer his formula, assuming they even had the capabilities to do so. Also, I got a kick out of how he was saving his recordings to "six redundant hard drives"...stacked on top of each other :banghead:

I saw it in the theaters and watched it on DVD a couple of days ago. I enjoyed it immensely. I look at it as entertainment, and not a training film. Not to mention I love end of the world type stories (watch Life After People on the History Chan).

If I want to know how to survive a zombie attack I will refer to Max Brooks' book. If I want to watch a zombie/EOTW movie I will watch this.

As far as using three year old gas- He has the entire island of Manhattan to find supplies. Surely there are auto supply stores with the fuel restoration stuff (I don't know if it would work after 3 years). And he might have figured making his house blend in would be a better idea than turning it into a fortress.
I guess what I'm getting at is I have no problem allowing certain liberties if it help tells a story.

Here's one nobody has mentioned yet..

The military blew up all the bridges and tunnels to keep people on the island....how did the woman and her kid get on with their SUV?

Hollywood Magic my friend. Hollywood magic.

;-)

Whether I was hell-bent on...

...curing them or not, I would have shot one that exposed himself to light and roared at me.

In a NY second.

I enjoyed the movie. It had holes like many other SF movies. I liked Charlton Heston hunting them in Omega Man, though it was pretty bad as well.

Oh come on guys.

He stays in HIS OWN HOUSE, that his family used to live in.

Remember his daughters room?

Yeah sure it's not 'tactically sound' like living on the aircraft carrier or building a bunker. But then it's a movie. And he's supposedly to obviously care about his family, which in the movie is basically his little girls dog.

He felt he had some kind of responsibility to make the whole situation better. He would only kill them if necessary. He viewed them as a sick human, rather than a mindless zombie.

You mean, kinda like we need to treat all the anti-gunners? :neener:

Yeah, I may not know how to engineer a virus cure (or whatever he was doing) but I sure know how to set up a RAID array and use flash drives and/or burn CDs...

FIRST RULE OF BACKING UP DATA:

Make a back up, stupid!

SECOND RULE OF BACKING UP DATA:

Never use the same media as the primary data source!

THIRD RULE OF BACKING UP DATA:

Store the backups separately from the primary data source!

FOURTH RULE OF BACKING UP DATA:

What are you doing still reading this? Go back up your data already!

I just watched Omega Man on netflix watch instantly feature...

Pretty crappy movie. Entertaining but crappy.

I am Legend was infinitely more realistic (for a zombie movie) and entertaining.
