J-Bar looks good. I too have a M17. I paid a little too much for a shooter ($500) w/ rough finish but it's a joy to shoot. I grab a couple handfuls of 22LR, stuff them into a shirt pocket, and have a blast.

"Also curious about the front sight. Looks like it has been customized. The rear face on the standard Patridge front sight blade on these revolvers was pretty near vertical. Looks like somebody added a red bead of some sort." --Driftwood Johnson

I had secured the revolver in storage for a few days, and just got it back out to look at the front sight.

Judicious application of the left thumbnail removed the red paint on the back of the blade. My revolver is a bit more historically correct tonight.

I reserve the option of repainting it, based on how well it groups on my next range trip!
