I bought the wrong gun!

And it turned out to be a good thing.

I've never had much interest in PCC's but a while back I saw where S&W had introduced one in 9mm with an adapter to use either Smith M&P or Glock mags. I have a butt-load of Glock mags and the carbine looked interesting. But I really didn't pay much attention to it.

A couple of days ago I dropped my wife off at Walmart and decided to drive down the street to one of the better stocked gun stores and kill some time. They had one on the shelf and I asked to look at it. Decided I wanted it. This store will usually eat the tax for regular customers if they pay with cash. I told the owner I'd come back with cash the next day.

But I didn't realize that Smith had recently come out with TWO versions of the carbine until I got home with it. The one I bought won't accept Glock mags. Totally my fault for not doing enough research. BUT, after getting it home I really like the version I got better anyway.

It only takes M&P magazines, but it comes with two 23 round mags and one 17 round mag. There is a way to attach 2 mags to the stock meaning I can have 63 rounds of ammo onboard. I may, or may not, buy another mag for it. My thinking is use one with FMJ range ammo and the other 3 with better HP rounds.

The version I bought folds in half with the barrel disconnecting from the receiver for compact storage, the other version does not. Mine is a pound lighter and $100 cheaper. It comes with a nylon carry bag that holds it folded along with all accessories. There is no logo on the bag for discrete carry. But it is just a lot bigger than it needs to be. I'll probably find something like a small backpack to carry the carbine in.

It doesn't come with sights, but I already have a set of MagPul back-up sights for now. Will decide which way to go after I shoot it. Gonna reserve judgement until I do get a chance to shoot it. But it has potential.

No pics of my actual gun, but I ended up with this version. Click on "View Gallery" for good pics.

The bag from the factory on the left. Good on S&W for leaving any logo off so it doesn't scream "gun inside". But it's just bigger than I want. It has all sorts of pockets for accessories, spare mags, owners manual, trigger lock etc. inside. But the gun folded fits inside the small pack. Sorry that one is out of focus.

I put those back up sights on it until I can get to the range later in the week. I might leave them, or I might take the Holsun off one of my AR's to use on this. I still have a 1-4X that I could use on the AR and not have to buy anything.
My wife and I travel as much as we can. I can see this packed for trips where it would be legal. They sell 10 round mags for it that would make it legal just about anywhere.

I don't envision taking 150 yard shots with it. But I bet I'm more accurate at 50 yards with this than a pistol.

Congrats on a mistake that came out just fine in the end.

I didn’t realize that S&W folded in front of the action. I assumed it was behind the action like most folders. That’s pretty cool and it looks like it makes it even more compact. Nice! 😎

I've been "playing" with it some today. Trying to decide if I want to use the MagPul sights, or the Holsun. I've experimented with it both ways and have the Holsun on it for now and took the MagPuls off. It's going to be late next week before I can get a chance to shoot it.

I did load up all 3 magazines. With an empty gun+the Holsun sight it is 5.5 lbs. With all 3 mags loaded with 63 rounds it's 8. Shouldn't have much recoil with an 8 lb 9mm carbine.

The S&W FPC folding carbine is a completely different rifle from the Response, which is just a 9mm AR with mag adaptors.

The FPC is all new & proprietary, with a magwell in the grip, which is why it only takes M&P doublestack full size & subcompact mags. The FPC folds, Response does not.

I have a FPC, great carbine, much shorter & lighter than the Response, which takes std. AR aftermarket stuff.

I didn't have time to get in a lot of trigger time, but I did go to the range with it this AM. I decided to leave the Holosun sight on it and got it zeroed at 50 yards. I was able to get 5 shots into about 2" @ 50 yards with the dot sight. I had another rifle that I needed to get zeroed as well.

My oldest granddaughter just turned 16 and I'm taking her to the range for some serious trigger time hopefully Thursday or Friday. I didn't want to waste time getting the sights zeroed with her along. We can go and just shoot now.

I have looked over both versions at gunshows. I appreciate the engineering that went into them and if I could convince myself I needed a 9mm carbine for any purpose it would be one of the two. I enjoy plinking with a 9mm handgun but just can'r work up any want for a carbine.

This is not a out down for anyone including the OP that likes them. I would much rather see people shooting their choice of firearm than try to disuade them from shooting because their choice holds no appeal to me. Get out and shoot and take everyone you can find with you. It's the only way we will keep shooting sports alive.

Confession: I also once bought the wrong gun- only because I didn't perceive a rail in the rifle's small photo on Gunbroker.:feet:

Sold it on Armslist (in early 2023) to a really nice local guy and used the cash to buy a Big chunk of .308 ammo.
