I knew when I bought a 4¾" Taylor's and company Smoke Wagon in .45 Colt, back I September that I would be looking for another.

As luck would have it, I saw a 5½" .357 mag Taylor's Smoke Wagon on a hometown board.

The seller graciously accepted my, admittedly 'low ball' offer so, I just got back from making my purchase.

.357 mag in the back, right

Seller said he bought it used but didn't look like it had been fired outside of the factory.

Said he put 50 rounds through it before he decided to sell.

I can't find eny evidence of wear and it's tight as a drum.

Mine is a 4.75" "tuned" one in .357. I admit I haven't shot it yet, despite having had it for quite a while now. I think I got it at the beginning of the year or so. It was used and somewhat dirty, but is evidently in tune, as there is not even a discernible turn line on the cylinder. Cocking the hammer back is like pulling a laser through butter. You should have a good gun there.

OP, as you already know from your first one, they are great guns. So I don't have to tell you that you are going to love it.
I have those same guns in the the same calibers and barrel lengths, but in the El Patron trim. Then found a 45 Colt Birdshead with a 3.5 inch barrel. Then a couple of weeks ago I picked up a nickel plated 45 Colt . They are my favorite guns these days.
Yeah, I have a Blackhawk too, but the SAA clones feel better in the hand to me.

I was watching some YouTube videos and say a few YouTubers had the same thing going on: a short colt the longer mag.

I was thinking I got it backwards; should've got the longer .45 because it would've been roughly the same weight as a shorter Mag.

Ie: more steel bored out of the colt coupled with a 1" longer barrel should equal less steel bored out of the mag but with a shorter barrel.

But then I thought maybe I did it right afterall since the magnum cartridge has greater recoil the added weight up front will help "tame" that (although my plan is to reload lighter loads using .357 brass.

Finally, I thought, "stop overthinking it and just enjoy your revolvers ya big dummy! " so that's what I'm gonna do!

Nice! However, now you need pairs of each caliber.

I am also surprised at how different the balance is between the 4¾" and 5½"; not bad, just different.

Funny, before I owned a SAA type revolver, I always thought the 5½" looked more balanced but now that I've handled both, I really like the balance of the 4¾"

Of course the weight difference between the 2 calibers probably has a lot to do with that.

I try not to visit Taylor's and Co. website, I'll end up in the streets homeless with a cart full of firearms.

Ha! I know what you mean.

A couple of their BP cartridge conversion options have caught my eye!

Yeah, me too. I was handling an 1860 45 Colt conversion the other day. It was hard to walk away from that one.
I'm trying to stay focused on the 32 mag Single Six that I'm hunting for right now.

Fine looking pair of Taylor's Chuckwagon single actions! Especially like the color case hardening on the .45 Colt Model!
