My dad always bought Fords (used, he never bought a new truck/car). One day a Chevy was in the driveway. 'What's up with that!?' 'Sometimes you just have to do the best with what you can get.' My 17 year old heart was taught an important lesson that day...

Applying for my CCW, I got advice from a cop friend who said the CCW gun he uses is a G26. So, last December I walked into the Dark Side and bought a striker fire handgun: it hurt me to do it...

Yesterday, I took my qualification test for that G26, my 1911, and my Sig P229 (in that order). To my surprise (I passed all three), I did better with the G26 than the Sig though I have a lot more time on the Sig than the Glock. (To be fair, the test was at the end of the day, I was tired, and I did pass after all with all 3...and, to be fair, 2 of my 'misses' with the Sig were 'quickfire from the ready' portion of the test--stupid me!).

Having 5 months with the baby Glock, I have had a change of heart: sometimes you do the best with what you got. Is it my favorite? No. I got a perfect score with my Kimber. But, I am no longer going to bad mouth Glock.

"When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways." 1 Corinthians 13:11

Enjoy and do the best with what you got.

Greg

Yep, good story. I had much the same story years ago. They work and I shoot them better than other striker guns (but not as good as my 1911s).

Good for carry, good for comp.

But, I am no longer going to bad mouth Glock.

such a shame... we will need to find a new member to counteract the kool-aid drinkers. :)

just jokes.

I own a number of them, but will still bad mouth glock... Until the day they decide to do away with their 2 cent sights on a gun in its price range.

Doesn't bother me, very few factory sights work well with my colorblind eyes, so I factor in new sights to any purchase price.

I have G26 from mid 1990s. Although I don't carry guns it's a classic ccp. Nice hdp it will accept G18 magazine in addition to G17 and 15 round ones for model I can't think of.

I felt the same way when I first saw them 30 years ago in SF training. We figured they would all blow up, people would be missing fingers and hands, and they would be consigned to history as some stupid idea out of Austria. Now they are standard issue through much of SOCOM and have the best service record of any handgun that has been in that command. It took me a long time, but I finally accepted and grew to appreciate them too.

I have no complaints about Glock functionality. The reason that I no longer own one is the ergonomics.

This is me as well. Glocks are reliable, accurate and very inexpensive for what you get. I have just yet to find one that felt right in my hands. The only snobbishness I exude, however, is that I grew up working in and around a CNC shop so... If it wasn't made out of metal, it was garbage:)

Glad you found what works for you.
I'm not fond of Glocks. Not because I think they're bad, but because they're not right for me. In fact all I've heard is they're good guns, but they're not right for me.

I personally like the full sized M&P for range use as it's very comfortable for me. I like the XDs and PF9 for carry depending on what I'm wearing. But I shoot them all to stay proficient with them.

That said, I think it's important to use what you own and carry. Go to the range and practice practice and then practice more because when you need to use what you carry in the real world it's important to be comfortable with it and know what it'll do.

If it works for you use it, I never got the I 'm a _____ man and the status that soposedly followed that statement.

FWIW I believe weight and capacity are more important than trigger pull.

The 26 is the glock that convinced me never to buy another, well not really but I don't intend to. I really liked my G20, but didn't reload at the time....so it went away.

I tried a G26 and several others when looking for the "perfect" carry gun....the 26,229, PT145, and a M&P9c all bit the dust.

I have somewhere in the ball park of 7 or 8 times more ammo fired through a Glock than any other brand of firearm combined.

I still don't own one.

The only Glock I've ever liked is the Glock 7 that Bruce Willis had, I've never shot one but it sure sounded good. ;)

I do want an old gen 1 Glock, they're getting harder to come by.
But I've never been a fan of them, regardless the generation. I just think their are better options for the money.

I read the title and thought to myself, "This is probably a case of someone who has finally decided to try one for himself."

I had the same experience a few years ago and quickly went out and bought a G19 of my own. I've got nothing bad to say about it.

I hate to admit it, but I don't hate 'em as much as before a gentleman at the range recently let me shoot his G19 and G10. The triggers were better than I remembered. I actually almost liked the 10. He commented that they were light loads.
Still think they have the tactile appeal of a house brick though. :p
He whined about the sharpness of the checkering on my Kimber.

I hated them when I was new to handguns too.....

I've shot a few and I'm better with them than my own HK P30...
Considering trading in the P30 for a Glock 34 9mm, mainly for trigger and sight radius benefits..

As someone that prefers revolvers Glock's, and striker fire handguns in general, were never on my radar. My LEO son carried a Model 33 .357 SIG as an off duty gun for several years. In 2014 I gifted him a S&W Bodyguard and he began using that for off duty as well as an on duty BUG. The Glock and a nice Bianchi OWB Holster ended up in my safe. A couple of years ago I took it to the range for the first time and man was I impressed. Was a little to much at first for this old dude but I tamed it a bit with the extra capacity magazine that adds a extra finger groove and using the Remington Golden Saber Bonded ammo. Not a EDC but I do carry it on occasion.

Been there & done that, too. I spent about 25 years hating Glocks. Then a buddy loaned me one for a few weeks and I thought, "Hmm. Maybe they're not so bad." Then I got the chance to buy one at Blue Label prices and thought, "If I hate it, I can always sell it." So I bought one. Now she's my EDC and I named her Gretchen....

But it costs more than I make in a month!

I've never cared for Glocks. They may be well engineered and mechanically sound (but of course, Germanic peoples are good at that) and I just don't like them. I haven't shot them a lot, but I'm okay with not liking them.

So a friend brought his glock 19 over and I was commenting how they weren't natural pointers for me, it takes me longer to acquire the sights, and I still end up missing the shot.
He told me to get over it, get with the winning team, etc etc. and that he had no such problems.

He then proceeded to shoot my chrony with it. I'm not kidding

Reformed Glock hater here also. Back in the early 90's, everybody knew you needed a 1911 if you wanted a real gun. Then a friend that had just been commissioned brought his new issue Glock 22 to the range and I actually shot one.

We had three bowling pin tables with 5 pins each on them at the 50 yard line. For pin shoots, we had a separate firing line close to the tables, but we just left them sitting up to plink at from the normal firing line (50 yards) when we weren't having a match.

On my best day, with my best 1911, I could consistently hit about half the pins with 1 shot each from the 50 yard line, which was pretty good around these parts. I'd never shot a Glock, just laughed at them, and buddy handed me his G22 to try out.

I went 15 for 15 with that thing on the bowling pins from 50 yards. Just bam, bam, bam, it kept shooting forever and pins kept falling, I kept waiting for it to run out of ammo. At about the halfway point the whole firing line stopped and was watching. I hated to pull the trigger on the last few, so afraid I would miss!

Last I checked, I have a couple of 17's, a 19, a 17L, a 26, a 21, two 20's, and a 23. Probably pick up a 43 pretty soon.
