I had a Ruger P95 follow me home from the gun show yesterday! PICS ADDED!!!

I got the stainless model. Didn't do too bad on price either. I looked all over the internet and even before I would add shipping and FFL fees I was out the door with my NIB P95 w/ 2 10 round mags. for less $$$. I know I should have spent $30 more for the 15 round mags but hell I can get some later. I only paid $354.00 incl background check.

This is my first handgun that is larger than 22 mag, and my first auto-loader. My 22 mag is single action revolver so this is way different and a new concept for me.

I took it out to some BLM land and set up a target and shot away. I ran about 60 rounds through it from different distances and wow WHAT A GUN!!! :what: I absolutely love this gun.

I was able to shoot off hand single handed and with two hands. Either way it was the best accuracy I have ever shot with a handgun at any distance. There seemed to be very little recoil. At least it didn't bother me. The trigger pull is velvety smooth and there were no jams or fouls at all. This is just a pretty and very functional tool.

Has anyone had any bad experiences with their P95 I should look out for?

How about any tips to make it better?

Where can I get accessories IE: Molded grips, laser sight for picatinny rail, holsters, etc for this?

All responses are appreciated!

Thanks!

Mikey!

i bought mine about three years ago for about the same price. good gun for the money, i love mine. only drawback was the grip, it didnt sit too well in my hands, but a pachmayer slip on fixed that. my aim improved as well.

Biggest drawback to mine is it will fire every time I pull the trigger with whatever I feed it and won't give me an excuse to sell it and get somethin' purtier.

You might consider some lighter Wolf Springs if the double action pull is too hard, since it's awfully long.

A British kid who visits America bought one, I thought to myself "piece of junk!", but when we went shooting I was pleasantly surprised by it. It didn't change my views on plastic in guns ("Polymer" to those so inclined ) but it handles nicely and shoots well. It's waiting in my safe for his return from the English Island, where he can't even own a pellet gun.

My p95dc has been great.

I didn't know there are parts out there to improve the trigger. The p95 deos have a stiff double action pull. The single action is nice and the recoil is weak.

Mine has been reliable. It shoots 100 rounds everytime, then fails to feed 1 round after that. Just needs a tap on the slide to get it to lock up. Maybe I'm limp wristing it, but its allways reliable up to that round count so since I never keep that amount of 9mm handy and clean after each range trip its a non-issue. Might need a recoil spring or maybe a squirt of oil.

I've taken a couple pistol classes with it without failure. I used an Uncle mikes kydex owb holster for the class. It shoots well and is very rust resistant. I picked up some offbrand 15 round mags and they work well. Mine liked Goldensabre and Wincester HST/ Ranger T for carry.

Its a tank, go straight to the +p+ 9mm for carry, if your carry ammo of choice offers it. It can handle them at the range just fine. Actually seemed to run better on higher power stuff.

Congrats on the Ruger purchase. I don't have a P-95 mine is a P944 (.40caliber P94). But I really like the Ruger P-series. The High Road is an excellent forum but if you ever want Ruger specific information www.rugerforum.com is an excellent resource. There is one member there COFFEEPOT that actually worked on the design of some of the p-series pistols.

My P95DC has functioned flawlessly for years. I think it's one of the best 9mm pistols that you can get for the money.

Congrats! I wouldn't mind having one of these. I have a Ruger P94 9mm (alloy frame) and I love it.

Pics added!

Wow Guys,

Thanks for all of your replies! I looked at all of the stuff you guys have recommended. But I found on Ruger's website that Hogue makes a grip for the P95. Naturally you can only get it from Ruger for around $30 so I went to Hogue's website and found that they also have a universal slip on grip for $9.95. I went down to my local gun shop and he had the same one in stock for $10 and I got that. He has some other stuff that I will have to save some of my pennies to get but that will come.

Thank you for all of your supportive comments. Not having much experience in the sidearm category, I am glad I didn't buy some sort of POS or something. It was a toss up for me at the gun show between the S&W 9mm the Taurus 9mm and this one. The dealer I decided to get it at, had both the S&W and the Ruger. He recommended the Ruger over the S&W, so I got it. The other brands were similar in design and exactly the same price. I figured I couldn't go wrong with any of the three, but Ruger just seems more like a tank than the others did and it felt a bit better on my hand as well.

I will post some pics as soon as I can and try to do a range report this weekend. It's raining again here for the rest of the week and cloudy on the weekend so maybe Saturday I will go to the range.

Thanks again!

Mikey!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I will be taking my CCW class tonight and my wife and the neighbor couple from across the street are signed up too! After I bought my wife her Heritage Arms .22 revolver the neighbor bought his wife the same gun. Then I bought my Ruger and he bought a 9mm Jiminez Arms. (We know about the reputation of the JA-9 at least we do now or he wouldn't have gotten it.) My vigor and vitality of taking them out shooting has recruited 3 new gunnies in just the last few months. I can't wait to recruit some more!!! :-D My neighbor even bought my .303 Enfield No 4 MK2 so we can go Deer & Elk hunting this coming season. That's where I got the money for the Ruger "smile"

I added Pics to this post as a goof!!! This is the laser sight from my son's air soft gun. Still looks kind of cool though!

The Ruger P95 is one of the finest 9mm semi-autos available at any price. Reliable, accurate, soft shooting and they fit my hand great. I have two of them, both KP95DC's, and they are keepers.

if you're not polymerphobic

Fear of plastic? Not me, but I refuse to spend even the phony dollars the gov't is cranking out now for a gun made of it. As for anyone else, have at it.

I own the Ruger P944 (40 cal). I love the gun except for two problems. The bulk of the gun is not conducive to IWB carry and breaking the gun down for cleaning is a bit of a hassle.

Breaking down the gun is a hassle???? Come on dude. Its basically 3 simple steps that you can do blindfolded. Flip ejector down, move slide to allow removal of slide lock, pull slide off.

Well, my neighbor and his wife, my wife and I, took our CCW class last night. The instructor was very informative and was also funny. He had a way of making a point in a funny way and in which the info will stick with you for the rest of your life.

During part of the course he passed around all of the different types of guns which you may run across and he explained their actions. He explained the pros and cons of each type and then passed them all around so we could hold them and try them out. He let us dry fire them, cock and de-cock them, and work the controls of all of them. This too was very informative. Since the class was in my local gun store, there were many types that he passed around as well as every shape and size available in today’s market both new and used. Everybody was taught something in that class.

Here is the real cool part; my wife came up to me after class and told me she wants the one with the little laser thingy on it! (For those of you who don’t speak “Wife-eze” that would be the Laser sight.) I asked her why and she told me “It felt really good in my hand!” I said “It’s not because of the laser thingy is it?” she said “No…It’s because it felt really good in my hand, and because that laser thingy is neat. I can play with Maxi with it!” Maxi is our dog! The gun she likes happened to be a S&W model 629 in .44SPL Cal. I was impressed. My neighbors both liked the Taurus Model 85 in steel. It’s the revolver without the hammer in .38 Spl +P. and my favorite was the Taurus model 85CHULT It is made of titanium and only weighs 13.5 oz. for CCW only purposes only. Basically my pants seem to want to fall off anyway, and if I add a CC gun attached to them in any way they are going to want to fall off even more than they do now. I will be using my Ruger as my CC gun for a while though. i will probably use a shoulder strap or something like that for starters.

I really appreciate all of the positive feedback about my choice with the Ruger! I went into this purchase quite blindly. I never owned a semi-automatic pistol nor had I ever shot one. I took the word of the dealers and what I had learned here on THR and punted.

I am sure glad I didn’t do as my friend did and go ahead and get the JA-9. I almost did! I liked the way it felt in my hand too. It was smaller and lighter than my Ruger, but something inside me said "You get what you pay for, and if you don't pay much, you don't get much!" But my neighbor didn't heed my warnings. I wish he had, because when my friend and I went out to shoot our guns the very first time, mine fired and reloaded every time, my friend’s JA-9, well, didn’t load a single round.

It seems that someone at the JA plant messed up. The round doesn’t load completely. Upon more precise inspection, the casing seems to be about 1/16th of an inch or 2mm too long. I think that someone put a .380 barrel in his 9mm. This is the only thing that makes sense to me. He still has not fired it. He called the dealer who said he could return it for a refund, but my friend decided to send it back to JA for repair instead. They said they would pay for shipping both ways, but he had to pay $25.00 for his FFL to ship it, plus shipping. I would have taken my money back and ran. I don’t understand why he didn’t. After he shot mine he said he loved the way it felt to him. He should have went out and gotten one just like mine. Oh well, live and learn! I just hope it is safe to shoot when he gets it back!

Thanks again guys,

I will get some pictures on here eventually. It took me all day to write this response because today was such a hectic day here at the office.

Mikey!

Lining up the two lines and pulling out the slide release is a hassle to me. It doesn't want to sit still while I pull out the slide release. I am used to the simplicity of a CZ-82.

I can understand how that may pose a problem for some Dumptruck.

I haven't had a problem with it myself though, especially because there are no tools required. Rack back on empty magazine, flip the ejector forward, disengage the catch holding the slide back, line up the lines, push the pin opposite the latch, and pull the catch out. Push the slide forward until it disengages and remove.

This was an awesome benefit I found out after my purchase. I was quite happy I could field strip this gun in less than 15 seconds without practice. Another 15 to 20 seconds and it is back together, also without practice.

Every thing I find out about this gun pleases me even more and more!

:D:D:D:D

I added pics above but do not know how to change the topic to say "Pics Added!" so people will know. Anybody know how to edit the topic that shows in the discussion list?

If so I could use the help! LOL

:D
