I had to defend myself last night

Well done!

In my book, facing down and prevailing over a carload of armed hostiles counts, no matter what condition your shorts are in when its done!

Thanks guys... well, Lima is just like any other place, bad things happen anytime! Not so long ago I shot two idiots with an airgun... now that was scary!!

Thanks for the good advice, I already own bigger guns (glock 25, Baikal, and a .38 Spl) Glock and Baikal in .380 acp (as big as you can get here!!) The .38spl is a big one, really just for a Home defense thing... you are not allowed Hollowpoints.

Self defense laws? Getting guns is tricky and expensive but well worth it, self defense is simple. If you fear for your life and can not get out of there, you shoot. You can use lethal force to protect life and property (but shooting someone over $20 is getting you a very very long jail time...) use you head...
No force continuum (sp?) you just defend yourself with a force multiplier. No diferrence between a stick and a shotgun.

Now I think i am one of those lucky Peruvians... Hector Banchero has already had to shoot 2 guys trying to kill him.... in different ocations! (search in google for him, but most of it is in spanish). 2 dead bad guys, one free good guy.

Shining Path.. I am glad I am too young to remember them on their most powerful times, but most of the time they just bombed whatever they pleased, so being armed wasn´t much help... people living in the Highlands suffered the most.. besides Tarata (they blew a car bomb on a main commercial street in Miraflores...)

Good job. I don't think you and your lady could have done a better job! I however would have left out the waterworks from the story, as well as bad breath or untrimmed nose hair...:neener: Glad you're ok.

Well, at least a P22 looks manacing.... At night. At a distance.

Nice work. A lot of places in the US prevent people from protecting themselves, and most of the rest of the populace wouldn't know they were in trouble in your situation until they were stabbed with the screwdriver a few times. Tell your girlfriend the guys at THR say she's a keeper. :D

Good work.

The whole sweating/urinating thing is just details, when compared to you & your gal's safety.

I'd guess you're not the only one whose bladder loosened a bit. Next time look for the puddles where they were standing too. ;)

Anything you walk away from unhurt is a win. I'd say you did fantastically.

The Walther P22 is one of the few .22s that can pull off the look of a modern defensive firearm. If all you had to do was display, the P22 would be just the ticket.

Having been in a couple of "Armed Encounters" I can honestly say, the pee is no big deal. I do respect you for admitting to it though. I've peed, puked, hypervenilated and all sorts of other crap. :) I'm glad you and your gf are OK, that's the most important thing. Now comes the learning session.

First thing, I carry the biggest gun I can conceal because I shoot it better than I do a "mousegun". Off Duty I favor revolvers, carry an issued "bottomfeeder" at work. I have on my person either a S&W N-Frame 45 ACP Revolver with a 4" Barrel or a 3" .357 Magnum. I also have a "mousegun" that I carry as a BUG. That's my S&W 442. If I have to carry a "bottomfeeder" off duty it's my Glock 19 and either the 442 or a Kahr PM9.

Someone else already mentioned the cursing, and I will concur with them. Give short verbal commands without cursing. Cursing takes too much time and you don't want this to sound like a fight between "willing combatants".

I would also encourage you to consider lateral movement when you draw, so that you get off the line of attack. When I'm at the range I will take one step sideways as I'm drawing, if not more steps. I also look for "cover". Cover is defined as something that will stop incoming rounds.

All in all it sounds like you did a good job. You came home alive, that's what's important.

Biker

Pissing or defecating in one's shorts is a response to the body's anticipation for a life or death situation. The body literally dumps unneeded waste to lighten it in anticipation of fight or flight. It's nothing to be ashamed of but as one experiences more deadly conflicts, they're better conditioned to handle these things without those results.

Yup - I was left standing in a puddle of urine my first time as well, but nothing much since them :D

My first time? I was too scared to pee....ummm...scared *crapless*, so to speak.

You do get used to it after a time.

Biker:uhoh:

You had the dignity of defending yoruself and your GF sucessfully, you could spare a little lost from a very understandable reaction

dang fine work says I

Good job OP. As for losing bladder control, when I took my CCW class the attorney actually advised us to urinate in our pants if we could, as we could claim afterward "I was so scared I peed my pants!" This was in an area with a very anti-RKBA prosecutor.

I've actually heard the same thing from other sources.....:D

Now thats a tactic you wouldnt expect to see in S&T :D

Tactical urine. :D :D

Im glad you and your girl were unharmed :)

Bravo! That was a very bad situation that you were able to turn completely around. You have done yourself proud. Excellent work!

I have seen many men in combat become so tense that when they relax a little this happens. It is not uncommon and to say you handled it with adequate diplomacy is an understatement. I think you did just fine protecting your GF, that is what matters. Clothes can be washed, a good woman is hard to replace. I know mine was killed by a drunk driver almost 16 yrs ago, havent found another good one since.

My advise on what you should do differently next time?

Depends.

Seriously, you did great, and give that little gun some credit, it did its job. It saved your life, either way you look at it. A .22 in hand is better than a .45 left at home.

Have any of you folks who are making the "depends" reference thought that perhaps that is not a product commonly found in Peru?

I always tend to "disbalieve" stories like this that get posted on here. Unless there is a newspaper article, or something like that, I just don't usually buy into these kinds of threads.

I pulled a .38 out of my pocket in order to stop a group of idiots from beating my brother with baseball bats. they got the hell out of there as fast as they could. I don't expect you to believe me, but it's true, and my Brother is still healthy, physically. Still a lil crazy though.
