I love shiny guns! I think a nickel plated handgun is beautiful. I must admit with great shame that I have never owned a nickel auto pistol, and some day I will rectify that oversight, but for now I must be content with my shiny revolvers.

Here are a couple of favorites.

This 357 shipped in 1950. I traded a $650 Colt for it and it also came with some stag stocks that I sold for $150 so I have $500 in this one.

Awesome, Saxon_Pig. Yours are in great condition. Wouldn't mind slinging those on a duty belt for awhile.

Well thats just - - - - Emmmm?
Shameful!

Shame on you Saxon Pig!!

Your guns are shiny!
And your sights are shiny!

Shiny sights are bad.
MmKay! :D

Really like the FHP Model 27-2! I don't recall seeing too many nickel plated Model 27's.

I didn't think I liked nickel guns until I discovered I had acquired a half a dozen of them.

Never could get into nickel plated firearms though I don't mind the look of stainless. Perhaps if, someday, I actually had a nickel plated firearm that was done properly in the first place and wasn't bubbled, peeling and just plain ate up my opinion might change.

But right now, I can't wait to get some nickel stripper to clean up my Mauser HSc that is peeling badly. Even a home shop cold blue has to look better than it currently does.

I like the looks of nickel plating, but I don't consider it practical for a gun in regular use. For people who carry a gun, if you draw it you might as well have a neon sign with an arrow pointing to you.

Nickel plating was often used on guns that would be around salt water, but today's stainless steel is better and won't peel.

Nickel plating can be removed by reversing the plating process. Most reasonable size cities have plating shops that can do it, or there are home rigs available. Remember that guns that were plated were buffed before plating, so the chances are that removing the plating will still leave a gun that is far from original condition.

Nickel was very popular with cops in the South. Some thought they did better in the extreme humidity but I think it was attitude. A Southern cop once said "when I pull my gun I want EVERYBODY in the vicinity to see it."

Nice!

Nickel looks great when it's intact. My hesitation with it is the way it wears, and how easy it is to scratch. A blued gun gets better with age, and a stainless one is mostly impervious. But nickel plaint seems to take every scratch personally.

Saxon,

I am glad that someone likes them. I own only 2 Colts that are shiny like that and both are shooters. I even turn up my nose at 38/44's in Nickle. Somethings just don't look right to me and a Nickle gun is one of them.

I do appreciate that they have a style about them and I can relate to its appeal though.

Wow, all these years I've respected your opinion SaxonPig, and then you go and admit something like that;)

But I find that I like revolvers shiny too....I just don't like it on semi's.

And I'm jealous of your collection.

I don't have a nickel 38/44 so how about a 1929 W&K 44 Special?

Wish it had some carved pearl stocks...

I like shiny guns and I cannot lie,
You gun nuts can't deny,
To the LGS I will race,
Dealer waves that nickel N-frame in my face,
...

Below is my pride and joy, that I bought 'cause I thought it was gorgeous, with the cocobollo grips, and the jewelling on the hammer and trigger. BTW I've shot that puppy quite a bit, and it is very accurate. I did a trigger job on it and the double action is smooth as warm butter. It is the 19-4.

Just for Saxon....

After a range session.

My Diamondback and Detective Special are both shooters. I blast with both of them as Colt's are made for shooting and S&W's are made for collecting (at least for me).

I make no appologies for my love for shiney guns.

Two bright polished stainless.
