Here's a link to a discussion on another forum, similar question to yours -

http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/archive/index.php?t-188832.html

There's a link to the manufacturer (Trexler Industries) in there, as well as a discussion about trying to get them to fit police models.

As there is no specific mention of the 700 SPS, there may be some fitting required.

Maybe you could contact Trexler Industries and ask them?

This does appear to be the lowest cost solution to the problem of 10 round box magazines in Remington 700 bolt-action rifles.

Note: This is the DBM (detachable box magazine) that TBC122 originally described, sold by Cabela's. He mentioned inletting and machining for his "tactical" rifle, so it doesn't sound "drop-in".

Be aware that the 700 SPS DM appears to have a proprietary Remington magazine design and a stock that doesn't look amenable to the Kwik-Klip. (Big notches in sides for magazine) So, you may want to get a Remington 700 that is a "drop in" for the Kwik-Klip and forget about Remington's DM design.

Good luck.

Kwik-Klip (continued)

Summary -

1. The Kwik-Klip (as it says on their site and the Cabela's ad) only fits long action calibers, such as the .30-06 and .270. The .308 is a short action caliber.

2. The Kwik-Klip, as you can see from the pictures, is a replacement trigger guard and bottom metal, which then accepts their proprietary magazines. Looks like a short (flush mount) and a longer 10 rd magazine are available.

3. This doesn't fit all Remington 700's without some modification. The 700 SPS may work fine, as it has no large stock notches for a detachable magazine. The 700 SPS DM may also work after replacing its bottom metal, but the stock will have to have those "notches" filled in with something. Probably unsightly. (In other words, if you are going to install a Kwik-Klip, the DM model doesn't seem to get you anything except a worse fit...)

So, as another reply said earlier, as you want

.308
10 round detachable magazine
cheap (< $800)

you can have any two of these. If you want all three, the closest is the Kwik-Klip in a caliber similar to .308, the .30-06.

Modern commercial rifles made for hunting have the magazine submerged in the stock because they are easier to carry that way. The magazine tends to be right near the point of balance and an external protrusion can get pretty annoying, like on some SMLE and Mosin sporter conversions.
