I never truly thought it would happen, but it did.

They also told me I should have just shot the guy.
Its funny ... cops say stuff like that.

The night a friend of mine and I were robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of my friend's apartment complex I told the officer "It just makes me want to carry a gun." to which he replied "Well, you should!" (keep in mind this was in Wichita, Kansas about 15 years ago ... back when CCW was a no-no).

My most sincere congratulations on your handling of that situation and on the outcome. The police who answered the call deserve congratulations on their behavior too.

We all need to keep in mind that the goal for people who don't like being murdered is to stop the attack, which is what HK G3 did here. His home invaders need to be free to ply their trade in the homes of people who appreciate their contributions to society, such as one of the Million Moms or other members of the Brady Campaign. I don't know why they do but I'm much more tolerant than most people, so it's okay with me if they don't mind having their homes invaded and their families murdered. HK G3 did mind.

That's the wonderful thing about our country. People who don't mind getting killed have a perfect right to exercise their choice, and people who don't like to be killed have the right to survive. Except in Washington, DC, New York City, Chicago, and a few other places of course.

What I'd like to see is a kind of "opt in" and "opt out" list that could be published in the newspapers. People who don't mind having their homes invaded and their families murdered could register their preference, while people who do object could register their preference too. Such a registry could provide criminals with a useful guide that would prevent inconvenience to them and to everyone else too.

They also told me I should have just shot the guy.

Yeah, but it would have made such a mess. ;)

I think I'm going to start carrying at home now instead of just having my rifle near me.

Another post that makes me feel less paranoid about making sure I have a pistol in the bathroom while taking a shower.

"YOU COME IN HERE, YOU'RE DEAD!"

...and with an HK 91 and a mag full of Hornady TAP 110gr ammo, he most certainly would have been DRT.

Good job!

Good outcome, no legal trouble, and you are safe. Also, the cops seem to be on your side which unfortunately is not a given. Also, you kept your cool. No one knows if they will until it happens, now you know what you are made of.

That sounds like my worst nightmare. It seems that most home break ins are committed by groups. One on One is hard enough let alone 4 on 1. You did well, but now they know you have a gun in the house to steal when you are not home.

HK, nice job in defending yourself...

Looking to the future, however... they may have known what you keep in your house and therefore may have been deliberately targeting them.

Most burglaries are committed by people living nearby. (Often in the same neighborhood.)

Keep checking your six at all times. Get a good security system and make sure that when you're away, your steel is locked up tight.

Good luck with them. Let's hope they learned their lesson the easy way.

God Bless you sir. If it weren't for our stupid legal system, I would have said that the cop that told you that you should have blasted the creep was right. Unfortunately you did the right thing and saved yourself a lawsuit and possibly a long prison term. Now you need to get something to keep on your hip too!

Good job. Glad you didn't pull the trigger. I have to disagree with the cops statement that you should have shot 'em anyway. My rule of thumb is to wait for when they are actually in your apt. and your life is at risk. There can be legal trouble if you shoot someone who is outside. However, since his hand was inside, I would have no problem if you blew it right off.

Thanks for the comments guys. I really appreciate it.

+1 on the gun safe, I'm moving myself and my valuables to a friend's place for the next couple of days, in the event that these guys were gangbangers, and their bigger, dumber, "brothers" come to regain their "honor". I hope they weren't, but I just don't know, since all I saw was an arm and a hand.

Also, I'm going to be picking up a handgun on Monday, and my friend and I will sign up for the soonest CCW course we can find.

I am just extremely thankful for AZ law, and the freedoms we can enjoy here. Reading that story about that woman in CA who was shot while on the phone with 911 just the other day makes me so thankful that this whole thing ended the way it did, since there's really no way to predict an outcome with these things, and that I live in a state that doesn't try and restrict the basic human right of self defense. I think it is very possible that had I been unarmed, I wouldn't be around anymore...

In retrospect, I'm somewhat surprised by how mechanical defending myself was.
Speaking from a fair amount of experience in this regard, that's exactly the way it should be - although that's not to say that one needs to stop thinking per se. You did good.

I just thought of a name for your HK91. Call it "Mr.Brown". LOL, Glad to see that there was no incident that came from this event. Now is the time to even be more on guard than ever.

Be more cautious now. The Punks are aware that you have a firearm in the house and someone wants a new pair of drawls:D

Glad you are all right, and hope this would be the last time. Be on guard and don't let it down.

Think..Determine..Respond..

Well done, glad it worked out for you, you did the right thing, not shooting unless you absolutely had to, but were prepared if need be.

Good job, nice work, etc.

The only thing I would add is that it takes something like this before people realize that buying a quality weapon like a 91 is not only OK, but a good choice.

Awesome job man u were well prepared and u've gone through some scenarios in your mind to prepare for the real thing.

Good gun choice... are u gonna have it cocked and locked while ur at home now?

the only critquing that we can give you is the following.

Good work for NOT shooting the thug. Youd probably go to jail for shooting the national honor student basketball star and for depriving him of a well deserved hit of crack.
If you had shot, the cops would have taken the gun, and once you were out of the pokey waiting trial, the thug and his friends would be back to visit you.

Since it seems to be your HD gun, why the HECK is it kept
MAGAZINE-less? you know how long it takes to uncase, pop in a mag, and rack the bolt.

Far far safer for yourself if the ready gun is kept loaded so its merely a matter of , sliding a safety off when you get the next window blown out.

Because safeties aren't.

Unless I can drop the hammer via a decocker (and those give me the willies), I don't keep a loaded chamber on something that's just "sitting around."

One of the reasons I -really- like my Stevens 235 SxS coach gun is that the exposed hammers can just be thumbed back. So I can leave the thing loaded all the time without worrying "will it get knocked over" or whatever... The pump gun gets pumped. And the .45s are also fairly fast... Revolvers are inherently safe, yet ready. My Kel-Tec and my Ruger DA decocker give me the willies tho...

Someone just needs to make a realistic tape that has a) the racking of a pump shotgun or b) the racking of the bolt of an AK. Optional buttons would be snarling pit bull and R. Lee barking threats. The starting of a chain saw too just for confusion. I am only half in jest.

Seriously you done good.

You won and nobody got dead. Good on you.
+1 on that comment.
Shooting someone is not fun legeally, socially, or in any other sense. It is a last resort and you handled the situation in a great fashion.

i probably would of soiled myself if i heard that thing being cocked and knew it was aiming at me.

Nah... After our home invasion my wife carried a .45 all the time around the house. She is very very good at using it too. I came home one night about 9:00pm and forgot to signal her that it was me in the garage. I came in to the kitchen from the garage and she was at the opposite end of the kitchen in ready stance, I was looking squarely down the business end. I had clean shorts afterwards, but never forgot the signal again!

Great job!!!!!!

If I were you I would consider asking the Apartment Managment to let you move to a different apartment for obvious reasons.
