Like many folks in IL who suffered in a right-denied state for so long, I've had a Pennsylvania CCW permit that the Commonwealth was decent enough to issue folks in right-denied territory for filling out a form and sending in $20. Since IL now is a shall-issue state, the laws of PA require non-residents to provide a copy of their CCW from their home state AND a new law in PA that started in 2011 requires permits to be renewed in person. Long story short, if I wanted my about-to-expire PA CCW renewed I would need to travel over 700 miles to do so. Well, I have done just that!
I was able to travel for free with a pal who flies a lot on business and have now visited the Sheriff's office in Centre Co. that on two prior occasions issued me a CCW permit for the asking when my home state denied me my basic rights. And while I really don't need the PA permit, I'm proud to have it in my wallet and would encourage others in my situation to renew theirs if they can make the journey.
