A local range puts on public rifle or shotgun matches a couple times a year in between training classes etc. Nothing too hardcore, just shooting for fun and getting some practice in. Although Vang Comp did give a $295 gift certificate to the winner of the Heavy Metal (12 gauge pump) division. I placed 2nd in HM and 8th overall, but had a great time. My knee has been bugging me so I was moving even slower than usual LOL. But had a lot of fun. The shotgun ran well all day, with the exception of one cheap Herter's (cabela's brand) which is the same garbage-tier ammo as Winchester Universals with the plated steel rims that jam in some pump guns. Hung me up on one string but otherwise I ran Federal and it was flawless all day.

Video for any interested. Note: Yes, I know I'm fat. Yes, I know I'm slow.

Idk what you call this kinda contest but it sure looks like fun. You looked fast enough to me I don't think I'd be any faster and I'm a skinny guy. Like to try this with my 870 wingmaster
They actually had a division for standard hunting-type guns with 4-round mag tubes so anyone who wants to participate pretty much can. Super fun.

Show-off 😤

Here we have a Shotgun Reloading Contest... that takes more of the stage than shooting and moving.

When SASS allowed pump shotguns - they pretty well had to, their BoD being named after a movie that includes them - shooters developed the "over the top" reload, firing the 1897 single shot, loading from a high belly ammo belt.

I wonder how fast you could go through with an ejector double and a convenient bandoleer.

A good SASS shooter could likely compete most of these stages faster than me. I load very slow.

I watched the video, good stuff.

One question, when you were doing the rapid fire, were you pulling the trigger or slam firing?

It was hard to tell, watching from my cellphone.

Good job!!!

Your remark about being fat brought something to mind. When I was in Vietnam I saw infantry platoon sergeants who would have been kicked.out of the Army in the 80sand 90s because they were too fat. These guys had been through WW2, Korea, and were on their 2nd or 3rd tour in Vietnam. Combat infantry Badge with 2 stars. They pushed our 18 and 19 year old asses. If one of us had issues about pushing on, they took our ALICE along with theirs and humped it.

Do yourself a favor. Check with your doctor and health insurance. If your fat enough they'll pay for bariatric surgery. Saved my life. If I hadn't had it done 10 years ago, I'd be dead.

You can’t slamfire a 500-590, at least one that’s working properly. The disconnector prevents it.
