And I picked me up a CZ-75b 9mm at Academy for $406+ tax

And 200 rounds of FMJ ammo.

Then I went to Bass Pro and picked up 100 rounds of Remington 115gr JHP +p ammo.

And a Bianchi belt slide holster.

I have a couple questions!

First, I know I need a better belt. This gun, fully loaded is heeeaaavvvy. My belt flexes and twists with the weight of it.

Second, the holster package said the holster fits the CZ75, and it pretty much does. However, I REALLY have to push the gun down into the holster, and even then it doesnt cover the trigger if the gun is cocked & locked. It does cover the trigger if it is in DA mode. Is this normal? Do i just need to wear the holster in some more? Or is covering the trigger not considered necessary when the gun is cocked & LOCKED?

Also, the CZ's saftey seems like it will not engage unless the hammer is back. It will not engage in half-cock either. What is the reasoning behind this? It doesnt really bother me, because it engages in SA mode and the trigger is heavy enough to be safe on DA mode. But why?

I am very happy with the purchase and I cant WAIT to get it to the range.

:evil::D:neener:

Can't say about your holster. But the safety is just as you say. You can engage the safety when the hammer is back only; not with the hammer down or on half-cock.

I couldn't say the exact reason why, but I could venture something like this. Most people either want to go cocked-n-locked so they can (with the swipe of the safety) get every shot off in SA mode, or they want the "can't forget to disengage the safety" ability to go with only a DA trigger pull.

Having drawn my 75b a couple of times and pulled the trigger with the safety on, I can say that moment of confusion when you wonder why your gun didn't fire is the kind of thing that could get you killed in a tense moment. If you plan to carry cocked-n-locked, you must practice swiping off the safety every time, so you do it when it counts.

On the holster just sit and insert the gun and remove it a bunch to help break it in. Better to start off tight than loose. If it is way too tight then use a little leather lube to help it fit.
The CZ 75 safety will only engage when the hammer is fully cocked.

Happy Birthday!

Bad choice with the CZ. Very baaad choice...

...since after becoming accustomed to it you will undoubtedly come to believe all guns are solidly constructed, reasonably priced, and impossibly accurate! :D

The CZ75 is a full size gun. As a carry piece, it is on the heavy side. I'd expect a PCR would be ideal for CCW - one's on my wish list.

Don't worry about the holster. Tight is good. I thought all my holsters were way too tight to begin with. In a week or two it stretch and conform to a shape that's just right. The Bianchi is top notch and will fit perfectly in no time. Any leather conditioner is unnecessary and personally I don't recommend it.

I don't understand how the CZ cocked or not would affect it fitting into a holster properly. Can you post a picture?

Otherwise nice choice, but get a better belt and you'll be happier.

Right I should've been more clear. I figured that much, but I thought that most off the rack holsters cover the entire trigger area. I'm surprised that the Bianchi does not.

"the holster package said the holster fits the CZ75"

I suspect that the holster is indeed for as CZ 75 PRE-B version with the rounded trigger guard.

Some holsters don't cover the triggerguard completely, some don't cover it at all. Most modern ones do.

Sounds like you need a good belt, though - you can do with an average belt for lighterweight guns - but you need a heavier duty model for full-sized guns.

Happy birthday!

That's normal. There's no need for the safety unless the pistol is fully cocked. Half cocked isn't "half cocked" -- it's half way between cocked and not cocked, but it's not cocked.

Enjoy the pistol.. and happy birthday. CZ's are wonderful.

Good choice in the CZ-75! Any good heavy leather belt will work, mine was a Civil War repro pistol belt from Cabelas for $15 back in the day.
I have an old Galco Hi-Jak pancake holster I used for 10+ years, (UM nylon pancake before that), with my EAA Witness 40,(CZ clone), and that was everyday, not every other day, but every single day, and it still looks pretty good - needs polish, been collecting dust for a few years since i went with the CZ-po1. Too bad my PO1 won't fit in it due to the M3 rail. Galco discontinued this model right when I bought it, last one they had on the shelf. I used it at the gunshop to show Galco quality.

It's a web style belt called the "Instructor 5 stitch". I have two that I use while wearing my jeans, and packing either my PCR or my Sig P226. They work VERY well and are about 34.00, come in various widths. (get the widest that will fit in your holster loops) Blue jeans will take up to the 1.75". Kind or "tactical" looking, but if wearing concealed, it's not a big deal.
Be safe..

+1 the last couple comments. A good holster needs a good belt to go with it, especially for a steel framed pistol.

Congrats on the CZ-75, btw.

Get a good leather holster, one that's custom made for your model of gun only. Once you do you'll never be content with the generic one-size-fits-some holsters.

I can heartily recommend the Aker B21 gun belt. Google for it and you'll find some dealers and nothing but good reviews. It's got a plastic strip in the center (stitched between the leather). I've had one for 2 years now and wear it all the time, even to work (business casual) when I'm not packing.

Happy b-day and congrats on a fine choice in firearms. I have one in .40... or rather I *had* one, I don't think my wife is going to let me have it back after she shot it last :)

bianchi black widow?

My bianchi black widow is tight too. That is just what you want. You do not want a loose holster on a bad belt. Hopefully you won't find this out the hard way. It will loosen up with time but if it ever gets "loose" it is time for a new holster.

The idea here is that you want that big old hunk of metal with them things called bullets in it to be kept nice and secure. I hear them bullet things can kill people sometimes. You do not want this to happen by accident. :)

Also, If you are new to firearms in general please get some safety training. I mean no disrespect. I say this to anyone I think may be new to shooting. Most here would agree I'm sure.

As you have just turned 21 and bought bianchi, and cz I think I can tell you a little about yourself. You are probably law abiding, intelligent, and have great taste. Now if you can invest wisely, keep yourself fit, and follow a path of life long learning you are pretty well set to win the game.

Good Luck and Happy Birthday! -bevr

On the CZ's, the 'half cock' notch is actually how it's carried in DA mode. When decocked on my BD model it rests in that position, not full down. It provides a shorter trigger pull yet still has some inherent DA safety. Go ahead, try pulling the trigger with the hammer all the way down.

So basically half cock is DA, full back is SA where the safety engages. If you intend to carry one on a regular basis, heavy as these guns are you NEED to invest in a fully supported holster that spreads out the weight better.

No, im not new to fireamars in general. Been shooting for years, have plenty of guns, this is just my first handgun. I know all the rules and I follow them to the point that some of my friends roll their eyes at me :p

BTW, I got my CZ out for the first time today. Tons of fun! It was just bottle plinking at my friends ranch so I cant wait to get it to the real range to see how accurate it really is.
