I want me a coyote gun

My yote gun is a Rem 700 223 SPS Tactical with a Hogue stock. I like the real short 20" brl. The rubber stock is easy to hold on to when its cold and you have gloves on. On a table top it will put 3 rounds on paper in a 2" circle @200yds

The 16" barrel is easy to handle in brush (I hunt NE Wis.)

You had best have a passport and permission for you to come into this state...could just see the headlines now "Mall Nija, Flatlander invades with intent to slaughter" and the Sheriff will be look'n for ya.

That being said, mostly my choice is a 6.5 X 55 or my M1 Carbine for tote'n. Then again I got a 'yote last weekend (yes, in N.E. Wisconsin) with my '94 Trapper chambered for .44Mag.

my personal favorite is the Remington R-15. It has a 22 inch fluted barrel and is chambered in .223

A good friend text msg. me today on his 3 coyotes making it 37 this season and 15 in a row with his new DPMS heavy barrel.
This guy has shot more fur (fox and yotes) than anyone I know personally and many that make a living writing about it.
His choices are DPMS AR in the HB and M4 configuration, M700 in 17,223,6mm 788 in 223. in no particular order. I can say he went through he mini craze way back in the early 80's and there is no comparison in his view between the new AR's and the very worthless Mini's of the day. I'm guessing his take over the last 35 yrs is close to 1000.

I use a CZ 527 American in .223 for coyote. I have an AR that I'm considering tweaking a bit for the task as well. I like the CZ a lot and the .223 gets the job done nicely.

I picked up a Stevens 200 in .223 on sale for $200. It ended up being cheaper than the break open so I pounced on it. I haven't been able to take it out yet(scope base came in the mail yesterday). All I can say so far is that the trigger will need some work. It is usable but far from ideal. If you look around you may find a deal on a bolt gun.

I also picked up a Steven 200 in 22-250 for $200.00. I have spent a bit of time on the trigger from replacing the spring with lighter piano wire, polishing trigger and sear engagement and reducing the creep. About the time i get it where it should be, crisp and light, it won't pass the bolt slam test. :fire:

+1 hr

i have the handi rifle in 223. not the varmint model. it does just fine. the trigger is a rough new but it eases up. you can work the trigger or sent to to h r and they will. thats what i did with mine when i sent it in to get another barrel. the gun is plenty accurate when loaded for, and you dont need multiple shots if you kill it with the first one:neener:

Get the H&R and some good glass (Leupold) and you are in the Coyote Extermination Business for cheap.

If I were to add up all my 'yote kills I would have to give the .223 the medal for taking more than all other chamberings and arrows combined. It does it's job. I have killed them with many tools, but the single gun that laid the most down was an H&R Survivor. I must have killed 80 with it. Work to get it to hit? Never been a problem it shot .75" all day long.
Now, I have an AR. Before then I used a Howa, before that another AR and the H&R, and along the way some heavier Mausers and my bows. When deer hunting gets boring I start calling. I always have my predator calls on me. Use what you got. Spend your money on the wife. Once you get addicted to calling 'em in she won't see as much of you.
