I just joined this board. I bought and IAB 1863 Sharps Percussion rifle from a dealer. I dont know much about these...It was used and did not come with the owners manual...I was wondering if anyone new how to obtain and owners manual...I tried online with no luck...any help would be appreciated.

I was in your position a few months back. I bought a .54 Sharps paper cutter and googled alot. Shiloh Sharps was full f information. I found that Charlie Hahn, a member of this forum has a wealth of information. Professor Marvel on the Voy BP forum also has a lot of information as well as alot of members of this foru,/ The hardest thing for me was to obtain a mould for the proper bullet. It cost me $125. but it was made for this gun.

I have read about those Charlie Hahn cardboard cartridges....want to order..just not sure of what size to order...was thinking about the 1.5 as a compromise....and using the depth (seating) of bullet to determine tightness of fit (length).

email Charlie. He willsend you samples for a few dollars and you can make the decision. I have three different sizes of his tubes and I use the 50 grain for target shjooting. Charlie Is a gunsmith that specializes in Sharps apparently. Good man to know and will always get back to you.

Being a frugal sort, I acquired my IAB sharps cheaply, and I believe I may be the 3rd or 4th or 7th owner .... for reasons that will become apparent as one reads along.

I have had a plethora of interesting experiences with my used IAB Sharps which is often thought of as a "parts kit" .

As our good Snaggletooth has related, Charlie Hahn is the guru of percussion Sharps, and he is able to offer much advise as well as repairs.
