Ideal hunting knife?

A 3.5 to 4” dropped point is the best choice for game IMO. The Beretta Loveless is simply amazing. AUS8 steel, but done absolutely right. It takes an amazing edge and the hollow ground blade geometry makes it a wicked cutter,

If you don’t want to spend that much then it’s hard to go wrong with a Mora.

I have a Mora Companion Stainless attached to my Hill People Heavy Recon Gear Bag. There's a comparison of the Mora Companion in stainless versus the Mora Companion in carbon on YouTube if you want to check it out. Mora's are tough as hell knives and they won't break the bank.

I got my new Mora. I like it better than the other one. I even like the plastic sheath. It quick attaches to a 1.5" belt and is secure.

This one has a shorter blade by an inch or less, but it's just right for skinning IMHO. Sharp ain't the word, too. I'll be using it next week on a deer cull hunt near Uvalde. (how's that for positive thinkin'?)

Just a note, took that pictured Mora above in my last post to skin with, didn't have to use it. We had a college kid quarter our kills for us, well worth the 100 dollar tip with gave him. :D But, I just got through butchering 6 deer with the longer Mora with the wood handle pictured earlier in this thread. It's an awesome knife, takes a great shaving sharp edge. It needs sharpening 3 or 4 times per deer, though, won't go all season without sharpening unless you don't kill anything. But, I've never seen the knife that could and I find that claim a bit hilarious. These Moras are both carbon steel, hard to find now days. For the money, I think they're danged hard to beat.

If you ever do spend the money on the Outdoor Edge Swing Blade you wont be disappointed. I've had mine for the past 6 years and love it!

The Old Hickory I modified a few years back and it's a great gutter/skinner. I just got the Green River 5" buffalo skinner last week only because it had a little more belly and a flat grind I wanted to try. First impression is that the edge on the flat grind takes a great edge but might turn out to be a little delicate. Once I cure the TruOil on the handle it'll come upstairs for a tryout in the kitchen. I don't have $40 invested in the both of them.

Ok how about a good rabbit and squirrel cleaning knife? I’m looking at the 3” old timer sharp finger, Mora, old timer premium trapper and sog field pup I or a caping knife?

The trapper looks ideal but seems cheap. The sharp finger is a little odd as it seems it will be hard to gut cause of the tip. The other knives seems too large and caping knife maybe good.

What do you use?

Rabbit and squirrel? A very sharp pocket knife.

For those who recommended the Mora knives I may end up with one for deer hunting. My buddy let me try one when we were cleaning squirrel and while way too big for squirrel i liked how lite it was and how sharp it was after cutting up several squirrel and other things he's used it for.

5" Short KA-BAR 1250 (w/ a higher grind, top guard removed, and a wire-brushed/sno-sealed/O-ringed handle)

The balance and handling is outstanding.

Good steel, light enough for easy field dressing, but still heavy enough to chop through heavy bone and joints.

The new pattern comes w/ the high-grind.
