If midlength ARs are so great, why do they still build CAR-gas? Market inertia?

A 14.5" midlength wouldn't leave much barrel after the gas port for "dwell time" ...that's the problem that 20" systems face when people want to chop those barrels down.

However, the higher pressure at the midlength port might make up for the lesser dwell time.

I have no idea, I'm not an engineer. Best thing to do is to either stick with standardized proven systems, or thoroughly test what you've got.

I do think that the midlength system with 16" barrel does seem to be a well thought out and proper system that will be reliable.

Let us know how that 14.5" middy works out.
