Jeez, 4 ????!!! How many handguns are you allowed? Shotguns?

OK, Ill play. My top 4 in descending order.

30/30 lever carbine
Ruger 10/22
Mini-14
PS90

if it's just for home defense then I'd say ak, m1, semi automatic .45 thompson, ar-15 and some .50 cal carbine of some type- if they make one that is.

Maurice:

You'll shoot your eye out! :neener: Best four I would suggest:

Kimber G82 with sub-sonics (What?! You never saw a zombie squirrel?! )
Bushmaster or other M4 (I swear I can't imagine pulling the trigger inside of a building...other than an indoor range!! Talk about deafening! :scrutiny: )
M1 Garand (Big, long...powerful Imagine 8 rounds of .30-06! Sheesh! Talk about firepower! )
M700 Tactical in .308 (Short, accurate and powerful repeater ;) )

In truth, any rifle would work, some more effectively, some more efficiently, some are more/less manageable in confined spaces. What matters is not the rifle or the caliber, but the trigger-puller's ability to engage the target. Think about the little fella that killed an intruder with his lowly .22LR! Ain't the size o' the bullet or the shooter, but the ability and resolve to place a round, when and where needed. That formula apparantly holds true even at the hands of a pre-adolscent. JMHO.

A good bolt gun in .308, many will do
Ruger 10/22
Mini 14
AK 47

Reasoning,

.308 = keep the bad guys at a distance which would only apply in really some sort of TEOTWAWKI
10/22 = Take out the bad guys quietly without making much noise
Mini 14 = my favorite rifle and plenty accurate for HD. Plus the ammo is inexpensive
AK = Not as accurate as my mini 14 but I know if all other guns fail it will still be there.

when it comes to defensive weapons

I Believe in keeping it simple. If I believed I needed four rifles for home defense I would, at the minimum, want them to be chambered in one caliber. Furthermore I would prefer them to operate the same way. Magazine interchangeability would also be a big plus. As for caliber the choice is simple, either 223 or 7.62x39. In 223 the choice is clear, make mine 4 AR-15s. In 7.62x39 I'd take 4 AKs. Right now I own 3 ARs and 20 or so mags. I also have a Saiga on hand.

huh? 4 rifles for HD? Kind of excessive no?

Ok, I'll play.

Marlin 1894c .357mag
Beretta CX4 storm .40S&W
SKS-M
Springfield Armory M1A Loaded. (for keeping 'em at a distance)

ONLY 4???

Man, I don't actually have ANY rifles for home defense. I think rifles are a terrible choice for urban dwellers due to excessive penetration.

If I lived in the country with neighbors way off there in the distance then maybe a lever 30-30 to take when inspecting the property? Still don't like a rifle in close quarters (like in the house). Too easy to end up in a tug of war for control of the gun.

If I did need a carbine for home use in the city perhaps something like the Marlin M9 or M45?

My home defense "rifle" has a 1/2" bore and shoots tiny bullets - all at the same time. It has a light, laser, ghost ring rear sight, stubby pistol grip and holds 8 shots and, hopefully, scares the bajeebies out of an intruder when I pump that first round into the chamber..

P.S. I don't need 4 guns for home defense................... K.I.S.S.

I think I have to climb on the " 4 AR-15/AR-10" wagon too guys.

I'd want two carbines and 2 rifle length. Matched pairs of 5.56 and .308s.

The carbines setup for short range engagement.. ie under 200 yrds

The two rifle length one setup for "reach out and touch them" situations.

BUT........... I like the previous poster (MinnMooney) like shotguns.

Now ask me about shotgun choices.

Agreed MinnMooney, the sound of a 12 ga. racking is the universal word for "get out of my house NOW!"

Wow,
I don't want to have to defend my home from less than 300 yards. So I guess that eliminates all 7.62x39s and 223s.
how about this:
1)Barrett .50 for the 500 to 1500 window
2)Nice accurized 300 Win Mag for dual coverage of same ranges with lower cost per kill ratio. Any quality brand you prefer. I'm partial to my pre-'64 Winny.
3)M1 in 30.06. covers everything from pistol distance to 700 yards pretty easy.
4a) second m1. (I like two of everything)
But...
4b) probably makes more sense to have something that will shoot your neighbors ammo, so we need some thing in a SKS or AK47. Doesn't matter which, both are reliable, it's just a crap round. My Desert Eagle .44 mag is more accurate and more deadly at any range

4 rifles for home defense, huh?

1. AR-15
2. Back-up AR-15
3. and 4. Both look a whole lot like shotguns.

Says the man with a light, laser, ghost rings, pistol grip and can opener on his shotgun! :neener:
