If you could only have ONE firearm, what would it be?

Nor' West Gun in .62, a flint lock smooth bore. It can shoot round ball as bore size, and any kinds of shot made of lead.

I can make the powder, and I cast.

There will always be some way to come by lead and powder.

I do own other modern guns. But reduced to one choice this one is mine.

As I see it, it is the swiss army knife in a gun. It can do more than just shoot, one example is it can be used to start a fire with NO powder. It can do more than that too.

Well i couldnt do it! One gun? But i will say if it was one hand gun< my 4 inch 629 no dash,it could be used on man or beast!

You stole my thunder.

If I could have only one it would be the 686 no lock. Concelable, yet could take most game in North America. By far the pride and joy of my collection,

You would have to explain WHY I can only have one firearm before I can choose that firearm.

I agree but I think too many times this questions turns into "the sky is falling, what gun do you grab?" type situations.

If I were only to have one gun it would probably be a pistol or a 12 GA shotgun. I don't own a pistol so I don't know what type I would want.

I would want a pistol because if for some reason I could only own one firearm, the world probably isn't a nice place right now, and if I needed to be protected all the time, my 870 isn't very inconspicuous.

The 12 GA would be more of a on the run type deal beacuse I can use it for shooting animals sufficiently and still use it to defend myself.

So for all practical purposes a pistol, for concealability reasons.

I'd get a Blackhawk convertable. It'll fire plentiful .45 acp, but also .45 colt +P, which should take down just about anything.

12 Ga. pump all the way. As mentioned before you can do anything with it. Hell slap a folding stock on one and you can even put it under your truck seat.

No one firearm can even come close to filling the bill for all I do, i.e. big game, small game, target shoot, CCW, and home defense, etc.

That's a tall order but I'd have to choose a 1894 chambered in .44mag or a 5" S&W or Ruger Revolver in .44mag.

Whay that caliber?

Because it can take any human or animal in the northern hemisphere.

If things were "normal" I'd have a Glock 19. If something occurred and things were not so "normal" I'd have an M4.

A k frame smith in .357 with a 3" barrel. Balance of comfortable to shoot, concealable, and reasonable power.

It would have to be a 12 gauge. The most versatile gun there is. What else can you hunt anything from doves to deer with ? And it makes a fine home defense weapon as well.

Well, i'll change my choice. An Ar15 with a .308 scoped upper, .223 24" barrel upper with a scope and bipod, and a midlength .223 upper with an eotech and BUIS. Satisfies all roles for me.

TC Encore pistol. Wide selection of barrels. You could make it a rifle, pistol or shotgun.

Thanks for all the responses! Very interesting.. I still stand by my 12ga. however. Too much versatility and devastating stopping power to be replaced by any handgun! Great for hunting, home defense...birdshot, buckshot, slugs and if a smoothbore...much, much more!

Oh, and this isnt a politically motivated post or an "end of days" kind of thing. Its merely a hypothetical...nothing more. :) Thanks again!

The only situation I could see myself limited to one firearm long-term would be confiscation and total ban. But if that were the case, I would choose to keep them all them for as long as I lived.

I would have to think about it. My three choices would be a 12 gauge pump,1894ss in .44, or a 10/22 but hopefully my alarm would go off and wake me up before I had too choose one of the three.
