If you had $100

I have a HiPoint 995 - nice weapon. Suits me fine, Im not a gun snob I just like stuff that works.....and it works, darn good.

Im assuming since you didnt mention otherwise your 995 is stock.

If that IS the case, might I suggest (as other above me have) the ATI stock for the 995 carbine.

Ive had mine for almost a year, best $60 I spent. Makes the rifle feel FAR more solid and the ergonomics are a VAST improvement. Ive never made such an improvement in a firearm with such little cash outlay before. Im NOT a fan of sticking ATI stocks on Mosins or SKSs.....but the ATI stock for the 995 is NICE.

After the stock you should have enough to grab a cheapy red dot - think I have $35 in mine from WalMart.

Makes rapid firing 10 rds into a paper plate at 50 yards a breeze.

I am really impressed with the HiPoint carbine. I would have no problems picking it up to defend myself with.

Stick the $100 at the bottom of the sock drawer until you have a few more of those saved up and buy something nice.;)

Its a tough human impulse to fight, but there's no point in hording ammo when its at all time high prices.

Half for .22 ammo and half for 9mm ammo.

Firearms are kind of useless for their intended purpose if you don't have any ammo for them.

If you could add $25 to $50 to that I'd say get an SKS as you desperately need a centerfire long gun in an actual rifle cartridge if that's all you've got firearms wise (a 10/22 and a Hi Point 9mm carbine), but since $100 was the price limit and it's what you have to work with now I'll just leave that alone for now.

It might be a decent idea for the future though.

Is $100 worth of gun parts worth sneaking around buying stuff behind your wife's back and potentially creating a situation of distrust?
Not moralizing. Just trying to give all viewpoints here.

I'd either be upfront with the wife, or if I absolutely had to sneak away and use the money i'd buy mags and 9mm ammo.

Hey! This is sincere advice and something that I have done myself. Take your $100, and use it as a down payment on a Saiga 223, layaway. Layaways usually run from 1 to 3 months, and when you pay it off, you will have a decent rifle. You can even purchase with lawaway off of online gun stores. Put "layaway" in your search, and see what comes up. I have seen DPMS 308 LR rifles for sale on layaway for as little as $150 down. Just pay on time, and you are in business!

...And The Results

$20-2 hours at the range
$80-400 rds of 9mm, 1000 rds of .22lr

I already have an ATI stock so that wasn't an option. Thanks for the advice.

I am with Hoppy590, stack the ammo. Practice with what you have and store the rest. :)

I feed my 995 primarily which WallyWorld WWB 115 FMJ. I can get it right now for $13/100 rds. Talking with the salesman and he said their value packs of shotgun rounds are going up $8/pack so I'm trying to stock up now.

By comparison, the Gander Mountain down the road is already $3-$10 more expensive.

I just bought .22 ammo the other day. My plan for the longest time was to fill an ammo can for each caliber I shoot, then maybe start over. I had been slacking on that so when I decided to not buy a CZ-PO1 from a friend it left me with a little extra $$$.
So I started on .22 LR. I have a can about 2/3 full now (about $84 but alot of it was CCI mini-mags). I could fit three more bulk packs of wallyworld Federal stuff and I probably will when I can afford it. It sounds like a small thing but for $100 you could certainly fill an ammo can for a rainy day and probably have one or two bulk packs left for practice.

But I still say buy 9mm. Increases on it are going to hurt you more in the future than they will on .22.
Also, are you equipped to load for the Mosin? Ammo for it will eventually dry up so stockpiling some for it and starting to prepare for reloading would be good ideas.

I agree that now is a bad time to start buying and storing ammo. Last year at this time would have been way better. But next year at this time it may be prohibitively expensive or impossible to purchase the ammo you want. If that were the case, you'd be happy you put that $100 into ammo in December 07.

Buy your wife some flowers and take her out to a nice dinner. Priorities, man, priorities! :)

I would stpend 15 dollars of it on .22 and the rest on 9mm. .22 is cheap enough that it is pretty easy to amass a sizeable amount pretty quickly, especially considering that 15 bucks will get you around 500 rounds. By the same token, 15 bucks (roughly) will get you 100 rounds of WWB.
