If you had a time machine…?

Nothing world shaking, but I'd go back to the early 1960's and go to work with Ed Roth at his paint shop in So-Cal for a good long while.

If I got a return trip.....I go back to March 1886 to be with General Crook when he met Geronimo at Cañon de los Embudos in Mexico.

I think I would correct two mistakes I made when I was younger. I would go bak to the late 80s, when the last of the CMP M1 Carbines were still available, and I would tell my foolish younger self "No, they will not be available later down the road-but one NOW."

My second visit would be to March of 2004, when I foolishly sold the Winchester 94AE that my now departed father bought me as my first rifle. I would tell my foolish, albeit now older self that you'll soon be living in Alaska, and you'll need that rifle. (When I sold it, I hadn't fired it in well over a decade, and didn't think I would ever go hunting-to say nothing about the sentimental value.)

Id probably consider going back to the time of "machine gun amnesty" and bring back a long list of no name AR receivers and AK parts kits serial numbers I have with me during current time. Register them legally, go back to current times, convert them all to full auto. Then sell like new registered transferable machine guns for $20k each. Im sure the modern ATF might think somethings weird though

You need to read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behold_the_Man_(novel)

To the original post, there are better investments. The problem is bringing enough usable money or valuables. If I were free to go back to anytime in the 20 th century. I would take some old silver coins and buy the first Superman, DC, Batman, etc. comics. I would also get uncirculated rolls of rare coins, such as 1916-D dimes or the like. 1909 S -VDB pennies, etc. With those now, I could buy any gun I wanted.

There was an episode of the newer version of "The Outer Limits" back in the 90s that did a variation of that story. The variation was that the future guy ended up replacing JFK at the plaza in Dallas and JFK went back to the future and became a history instructor.

I have some pre 64 silver, and silver certificates, so I have that angle covered.
After loading up on my briefcase full of
new handguns and my 2 early 60's vintage
Marlin lever guns , I'd be looking up some of
the women from back then I had crushes on
when I was young, and asking them out.
Starting with Ann Margret

This shows how my memory is failing me. It was a 1986 "Twilight Zone" episode with (believe this !) Andrew Robinson (the killer in the first "Dirty Harry" movie - also Elim Garak on "Deep Space 9") as JFK.

Well, I would go back to that gun show (probably 20 years ago now) where I found that Winchester Model 88 in .308 Win. with the slight bulge about 4" back from the muzzle and they were asking $150 for and just buy it. I'd either shorten the barrel to carbine length or more likely get a replacement barrel chambered in 7-08 Rem. Either one would be awesome!

I'm with @Aarond on this one. Go back and help rewrite the 2nd Amendment in such a way that it could not be circumvented, violated, or abused in the current manner.

Apparently, Key & Peele already tried this. Stick around for the end of the clip (about 2 mins). The 2A is indestructible.

It would have to be two trips for me. First would be a trip back to the 1920's where you could walk into a gunshop and buy a BAR or Thompson. Then on back to the 1800's where you could buy new Winchester 73's, Henrys, Colt SAA's and S&W Russians. I would try to bring back a few gold coins too!

If I had a time machine, I'd map out a plan to eliminate, neuter, or otherwise radically inhibit the gun control laws such that what happened in 1934 and subsequently in 1968 no longer existed as the governmental gun control foundation we know them to be today.

Part of that plan would be re-enforcing the concept of the Second Amendment as being an individual right.

Go 50 years into the future - lots I’d like to know including whether or not guns are even a topic anymore.

I want to go to the future.
If you read much speculative physics the general consensus (among people even willing to entertain discussing fringe stuff like this) is that time travel into the future is much more likely to be a possibility than travel into the past. As a gross simplification the flow of time only moves in one direction. The past no longer exists to travel to, but the future does.

If I could travel into the future I would come back with a crate of Gen (X) Glocks and put them on GunBroker one at a time. The fanboys would make me a gazillionaire.

I would go back to 1776. and show our Founding Fathers a tricked-out AR with high-cap mags, and show them articles on all of the mass-shootings since Columbine.

Then I’d show them how their (founding fathers) words are used to block reasonable gun control measures.

That’s all I’d do: show them the future of firearms. They are smart dudes, they could figure out better than I how to address the 2nd Amendment once they have the facts.

Be sure to take a couple actual assault weapons and maybe an F-15 or two to show them what those "hi-cap mags" in those hopped up .22 semi auto rifles could possibly be up against. I don't think it would turn out the way you think it would.
