Hi there,

I have a question:

If you have to choose 7 handguns and the money is not involved?

What would be your choice and calibers?

Thanks

Hello Jamie,

I am a target shooter and I just won these 7 guns but I have to choose the brands and calibers.

Seven handguns and money is no object? OH MY!

Springfield Armory TGO1 1911 - .45ACP
Browning High-Power (fully tricked out) - 9mm
HK USP - .45ACP
Sig 220 - .45ACP
Sig 226 X Five - .40S&W
Sig 229 DAK - 9mm
Colt Python (mint condition) - .357Magnum

Yep, I'd be happy!

:)

Well Roadrunner, that still leaves the question of "what are you gonna want to do with 'em?"

I mostly know defensive/offensive weapons, as well as a few suitable for hunting. Target shooting... not so much. So my opinion of handguns will be geared more toward the ones that are good anti-personnel use. Somebody else may favor something for dropping deer, or making little groups at 25 meters...

Also, are you limited in any way to certain choices? If so, what are they?

Not trying to be a pain here, but your question is really open-ended, and very much subject to what category(ies) we're talking about.

Or maybe you want seven guns to cover the whole spectrum of what a handgun can be used for?

You see what I'm getting at?

Thanks guys for your answers.

RNB65 I will take a note of your suggestions.

Jamie I won one of a NRA sweepstake I must choose 7 guns from a list.

Like I said I am just a target shooter, but I like some guns with an historical background like the 1911, M35, Peacemaker, etc...

So it is difficult for me to say I prefere that or this category you mentionned.

Okay, Roadrunner, without knowing what's on that list you have, here's my list of what I'd be after:

Browning Hi-Power... 9mm. Would like one with an electroless nickel finish and night sights.

Springfield Armory EMP... 9mm ( Better make that 2 of 'em, 'cause the wife will no doubt swipe one. )

Ruger Vaquero... Stainless Steel, 4 5/8 barrel... .357 mag.

Ruger Single Six Convertible... Blued, fixed sights, 6 1/2 inch barrel... .22 LR/.22 mag.

Sig P229 SAS... .40 S&W.

Sig P220 SAO.... .45 acp.

Oh, and if I can't have 2 of the EMP, I'll take a CZ-75 Compact.... 9mm.

How's that? And when can I expect delivery? :D

I don't even need a reason, I just like shopping in my head:

.45ACP
Ed Brown Kobra Carry - stainless
Ed Bron Classic Custom - stainless

9mm
Sig P226 X-Five
CZ 75B SP-01 Shadow
CZ 75B SP-01

Revolvers
US Firearms "Gunslinger," 5.5"bbl in 45 Colt, throw in the real stag grips
mint-condition 15-year old S&W 686, sent to S&W for their combat revolver package

Is this kind of sweepstakes a regular thing for the NRA? I might have to join after all - it's like a lotto ticket, plus magazines.

Thanks Jamie,

I don't have yet the list, this is in process. I am very impatient to see that lol

This is what I was thinking:

Freedom Arms 454 casull for fun, so I can use also the 45 Colt caliber
Colt Peacemaker 7 1/2 inch barrel in 45 Colt or similar model
Springfield 45 ACP or similar
1911 Colt in 38 special to try
357 I don't know exactly the model perhaps the S&W like RNB65 mentionned.
I am not a fan of HK or SIG or CZ, I really prefer the 1911, great design, and large custom parts choice.

I can't think something else, it's hard to know without this list, I hope some guns above will be in.

Thanks for your advises

Okay, Pie in the sky stuff.
1st Generation Colt 22LR SAA-NIB of course
Nickel Colt Bankers Special 22-NIB of course
Nickel 2.5" Colt Diamondback 22-NIB of course
E-Nickel 6" Colt Diamondback 22-NIB of course (a broken record
Pre-war Colt Commercial ACE-NIB of course
Nickel 6" Colt Police Positive 22-NIB of course (first year of production)
Case Hardened Colt Diamondback 22-NIB of course

Guess you can see where my interests lie?

Hello Wooderson,

Thanks for your advises.

Sure, please joint us to the NRA at anytime, they provide some great things.
They've got many ranges at reasonnable prices, meeting, friends, etc..

I have some luck, I never think to win something like that, this is a nice Christmas present from the NRA I can tell you that much ;-)

There is a sweepstake running now for a trip in South of Africa with Wayne Lapierre and many prizes.

oops, Jamie you are right I was thinking about the 38 but did not know if it was a super or special. Sorry about that :-(

Glock 21

Glock 17

Glock 30

Sig X-five (9mm)

classic single stack 1911

Smith Wesson X-frame (.500)

Uberti Schoffield (IMHO the most beautiful revolver in the world)

Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special .45 ACP
Springfield Armory "Professional Model" TRP .45 ACP
Early Vintage Colt Python .357 Magnum
Early S&W "Registered Magnum" .357 "
Colt 2nd series Match Target Woodsman .22LR
Smith & Wesson factory nickel 39-2 (mint cond ONLY) 9m/m
and probably a Colt Single-Action Army .45LC

This would be quite a nice catch, if you could pull it off~!;) :D

Not sure if anyone else offered this yet, but get your blue book out, choose the most expensive 7, then sell them and buy what you really want.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your suggestions.

Jamie the Coonan 1911 is nice, thanks.

Levan9X19, thanks I heard a lot of good things about glock.

Ala Dan, I think we have a similar taste, I've already got a 1911 Les Bear made from scratch from my gunsmith (5" Bull barrel and almost the best parts on the market), a Springfield 1911, Browning HP, etc...

The Smith Wesson X-frame (.500), I think it will be to much for me to handle, when I mentionned the Freedom Arms 454 Casull, it is best to reload from 45 Colt to mild 454 Casull. I saw my father in law shooting a Ruger 454 Casull with a hot load, trust me I was there, he shoot only 3 rounds and he was done for this day lol

sig x five (9mm)
colt delta elite
kimber custom
S&W 500
Colt anaconda
sig 1911
dan wesson

I am very jealous of you my friend i wish i had that offer. i dont know ur list but im sure i can find things i like.
