I need to vent a little. I sent my renewal for a FOID card over a month ago. I have yet to receive it. I have been on hold for twenty minutes waiting to talk to an agent about it. Proir to that their recording states that it is taking 57 days to process applications. What a load of BS! That makes me miss dove season and if it is business days then over two weeks of the upland game season. Not to mention two or more months of squirrel hunting. My current card just expired so by owning my guns I am breaking Illinois law. Well the Second Amendment will take care of me if push comes to shove. However it will keep me from hunting with a firearm. Illinois sucks! If the extended processing time is the norm, and it is according to others, then why don't they send out the renewal notices earlier and why do they say 30 days on the website?

Yup...I usually waited 4-5 weeks to get mine. Luckily I moved to Texas and don't have to worry about such a thing anymore *GASP*

C'mon down!

Where in Central IL are you? I moved from Normal.

My FOID took 2 months. From May 31st mailing it, to July 27th receiving it. Try calling early in the morning, in two times that i called for a status check, someone picked up the phone within 3-5 minutes.

It is amazing y'all have let your government get away with such nonsense for so long.

It's too bad you can't kick Chicago out on its ass to let the majority of the state govern itself.

So glad I don't live there now that I love shooting so much... Guess you guys will just have to start looking to see if you need to renew after hunting season every year. I do something similar with my car insurance, looking at the card periodically to see if I'm still gonna be good for the next couple months. (now I'm checking it again out of paranoia)

I didn't leave because of gun control, but it will keep me from ever moving back. Most of my family lives near enough to St. Louis though that I could always try Missouri.

And it's more than the atrocious things everybody knows about. When we visited family in Illinois a couple years ago my FIL and I went to a range for some shooting. None of their targets had heads, you could not use humanoid targets, headshots were strictly forbidden, and since I was not an IL resident and did not have a FOID I could not so much as lay a finger on any of the firearms they had for sale.

Isn't it sad? My parents and a lot of my other family is still in IL so I'm thinking about keeping my FOID current just so I can participate LEGALLY in these activities while I'm home visiting.

Iv been to Bass Pro a few time's and never had a problem looking at a gun. I dont live in IL they just asked to see my license.

The Illinois State Police Firearm Division is required to process your app within 30 days. They almost never do. You should spend your time calling your state rep, state senator, and the governor's office. Share your outrage and indignation with them and your app will somehow magically move to the top of the pile for almost immediate processing.
Also join ISRA, NRA, illinoiscarry.com, and any other groups fighting this silly FOID thing.

I have purchased a rifle (FN SPR) online in June, it shipped to Cabela's in the beginning of July. I had my wallet stolen on 4th of July along with my FOID card. I applied for a new card and it's been almost two months and still no card. My brand new rifle is just sitting at the gun shop, waiting for me to pick it up. I cannot go shooting, or hunting, or even transport firearms. This is unconstitutional. They issued me a duplicate driver's license in a matter of minutes. Someone needs to bring a lawsuit against the state of IL. :fire::fire::fire:

Correct me if I'm wrong. If you have your expired FOID card and can prove through your bank statement that they cashed the check...you should be good. I have a buddy that is a Conservation Police officer. I will give him a holler and let you know

What are you waiting on? That someone is YOU!!! Hey, I'm guilty of it to...the government does something I don't like, and the first thing out of my mouth is "someone should..." That someone is you and others like you in the same situation. If it's important to you, then do it.

I'm not constituional lawyer, but the whole FOID card will certainly be determined as unconstititional at some point. I have to get permission to be granted my constitutional rights? I still haven't gotten my card which allows me to post freely in this forum...am I in violation?

Yeah, New Jersey has it WAY worse than Illinois, lol. Only one gun per Purchaser ID card, need a new ID when buying a new gun (or something like that), assault weapons ban, no high cap magazines, plus, you can get sued by an intruder's family if you shoot them in self defense, and 'self-retreat' before self-defense. May Issue CCW (i think its worse than having NONE at all like IL).

I don't know where you went shooting, but that must be a store/gun range policy to not allow human shape targets. As for not being able to buy or touch a gun, here the store clerk was the idiot since obviously people from outside IL can purchase guns in IL. That store simply lost out on a customer.

I have seen that policy here in Texas at my local Bass Pro. They said it 'offends' certain customers to see people shooting at pieces of paper with a human face (ie zombie, Bin Laden, etc)

A non-resident of Illinois is NOT prohibited from shooting or hunting or handling a firearm in Illinois. The stoopid FOID only applies to residents. That is one of the things about it that bothers me the most. My Bro-in-law from Iowa can buy a box of shotgun shells at Farm Fleet with just an IA DL but I can not unless I present a valid FOID.

Well since you live in the state and know their laws why didn't you check the expiration date on the FOIC in time to get it renewed? Seems to me that the only person responsible for your not dove hunting is you. I moved from Chicago 40 years ago because of its corruption, graft and police abuse of citizens rights. Maybe I should have stayed and fought. But Ill didn't offer me the big game hunting I have now so I left. You have the same options. Frank

No offense, but the refusal of the ISP to obey the law in this regard has been going on for decades. It is not as if it is a new issue. It is usually worse at this time of the year as hunting season approaches. The answer is not to wait until they send you a renewal form. Send in your renewal ahead of time. It is really the only thing you can do as the ISP just refuses to obey the law, and has refused to do so for a very long time, and there just is no remedy provided to force them to obey the law.

That makes me miss dove season ...
While the law is stupid, it is a longstanding piece of legislation - so, what's your excuse?

You couldn't read the expiration date? You waited until the last minute to deal with any arm of the government and you're surprised that it's not a model of efficiency...?

Welcome to the real world.

One of the great things about living in America, you can protest with your feet. Well, symbolically. You can move to another state. There is no need to feel obligated to stay and fight all the while paying taxes into a state system that you don't support. I know it's easy to say just move but in all honesty, I would not live in a state that I felt was taking away my rights. I would be making plans to leave.

I keep my old IL FOID card as a reminder of why I left IL about 7 1/2 years ago.

I can place it next to my TX CHL and marvel at the difference between the two cultures.

Well, I looked better on the FOID card...because I was about ten years younger. :)

Ahhh, but now you are wiser, my friend ;) See how that works? :D

Best things to do? Join ISRA & let your reps know where you stand often in firm and polite terms. There is a *HUGE* groundswell of generationally enslaved free people here waking up to the fact that they have rights not requiring 'say-so's. and permission. The tide is turning. If we keep the pressure up, changes are comming.

The state firearms laws sometimes make no sense. I'm a retired LEO/and an academy firearms instructor. Under HR-218 I can carry in all 50 states.( please don't flame me for that, I believe that carry permits should be issued and honored by all states) I moved out of NJ after retiring and on a return visit I stopped by the local police supply company to buy a box of shells. They told me they couldn't sell them to me legally since I didn't any longer hold a NJ Drivers license and a NJ FOID card. How ridiculous is that? I can legally carry a handgun but can't purchase ammo for it?
