An expired FOID has always opened the possibility of firearms confiscation.
It is important also for your beneficiary to have one. Just in case you do not return from Chicago.

Apparently the lives of people on the West and South sides of Chicago, where the carnage is taking place means nothing to the powers that be in Illinois as they continue to focus elsewhere. I became a Wisconsin resident today, moving here from the Chicago area. No FOID requirement here and somehow we don't see the weekly body counts here they have in Chicago. The powers that be in Illinois don't want private gun ownership and have done and will continue to do whatever they can to make that as difficult as possible.

Mine expired recently but "Jabba's" decrees state that the cards remain good for 18 months after the "emergency orders" expire.
IL-ANNOY Constitution allows the governor to make a "state of emergency" - but only for 30 days. "Jelly-Belly" is now over 500 days of repeated "emergency orders".
