Gov. Quinn steps over some dead bodies to score some points for the gun-control lobby. Only the not so-mighty Quinn could take a law that would've helped Illinois gun owners, and out of whole cloth created a new assault weapons ban. The law as it stood allowed for a FOID card holders to purchase ammunition that could be shipped to their house from a dealer within the state. Presently only sellers that are from out of the state of Illinois can ship directly to Illinois gun owners.
How and why the Gov. felt that it was appropriate to modify the bill in such a drastic manner is beyond any legal gun owner in Illinois. We went from a bill with more freedom to making criminals out of thousands of Illinois gun owners. There are thousands of legally owned semi automatic rifles in Illinois. This debate has been had in this country since the 90s. Assault weapon bans have had no positive effect on gun crimes. They are useless feel good placebos. Rather than concentrate the state's efforts at illegal gun usage, it finds it much easier to blame the law-abiding citizen.
It's not necessary to bring to everyone's attention that Chicago with the most restrictive gun laws on the books is the most violent and gun ridden hell hole in the United States. Mayor Little big shoes Emmanuel has even pleaded with the criminals to take it to the alley and keep gunfire away from the children. How's that plea working for you Mayor.
Perhaps you can ask the Gov. why he feels I should be a criminal. I pay an exorbitant amount of taxes and fees for the privilege of living in this state. I am mostly willing to be left alone, to live my life as I see fit and in the manner which doesn't bother or in danger my fellow citizens. I live in the only state which doesn't allow conceal carry, and feels it necessary for me to have a license to exercise my second amendment right. Gov. leave me alone. To the Illinois House and Senate I am not a threat to anyone in this state, but I might start taking it personally if you continue down this path.
