Does anyone have an up to date list of the guns Illinois is requiring to register with the Illinois State Police. Apparently the registration deadline is going to happen before the courts stop the law.
:fire: :( :cuss:

Unfortunately, it's like the old IRS joke - "How much did you make? Send it in !"
The numbers of firearms involved really is astronomical. You might be able to find out more details at Illinois Carry (dot) com.

For those planning on registering their so-called assault weapons when the registration opens for a brief window (for weapons owned before the 1/10/23 enactment date) this Fall, there is a list by type included in the statute. Along with this is a list of features that in addition to a box magazine will also make any semi-auto weapon an assault weapon under the new law. The law also provides that the ISP has the authority to add new firearms to the banned assault weapons list as it sees fit going forward. The most relevant info of how things stand right now that has any authority is the ISP's FAQ on the subject. https://isp.illinois.gov/Home/HB5471Faqs And yes, it just mostly refers concerned citizens to the statute. And, yes...just about everyone who reads the statute finds that since nothing is explicitly exempted that takes a box fed mag, and that box fed mags can go beyond the statutory round limits newly-created, virtually any box-fed semi-auto weapon not having otherwise prohibited features might become a prohibited assault weapon if it could accept a newly-prohibited magazine. For this reason, some dealers have even stopped selling plain-Jane Ruger Mini 14s and the like as it is unclear what the statute's meaning is in this regard. If one were planning on registering any semi-auto weapons under this law it might stand to reason that they might better register ALL of the box fed semi-auto weapons they owned prior to the enactment date or made an attempt to do so when they could. This is just my thinking on the subject and nothing more. I am a state employee and can't afford to run afoul of the law any more than any of us can but everyone must make up his or her mind on the matter. Seeking the advice of an attorney that has a background in Illinois gun laws is probably the safest bet.

What about the Garand and SKS, both with fixed magazines?
Mini 14 and 30 are pretty benign except for the mag possibilities.
The M-1 Garand & standard fixed-mag SKS seem OK (whatever that means!) under this law. Earlier versions of the bill that didn't pass included by-name and type specific exceptions listing the aforementioned weapons and even the Mini and non-paratrooper M-1 Carbine. But as it reads to many, you answered your own question regarding the "mag possibilities". My own favorite "LGS", run by my now-retired favorite Dentist, isn't selling any semi-auto rifle in state that can accept a box mag whatsoever....erring on the side of caution. I can't blame them a bit.

We have some LGS selling everything thing available under cover of a TRO. The ISP says any item purchased after the enactment of the law can not be registered.
So all guns purchased from those dealers will be Illegal assault weapons and the owners felons as of 1/1/24.

Without resorting to hyperbole, Illinois is one giant cluster. I'm still waiting for he state to respond to the order for a COMPLETE list of guns covered under the new law. By name and model. (my high school trap kids just might all be using assault weapons)

You know as well as I do that one of the things about IL-ANNOY politics is the LACK of transparency.

Hey folks,
Got that deadline coming at us in a hurry here. I hate this law but I'm compelled to comply as law abiding citizen. I believe i have only 1 firearm that requires registration which I have unfortunately done . I was under the impression magazine's required registration too but there isn't any provision for adding them . So maybe no??

I want to stay in compliance with the law but I am not able to navigate the legal mumbo jumbo to determine accurately if magazines need to be declared or not. Can someone that understands this law better help me out?

It's frustrating that a common man can't even figure out what the hell this bad law requires even if that person is prepared to comply completely .

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I agree with you 100%. I asked the same question about hicaps, and it seems that we can keep any mags we already own. Just like CA, its probably difficult to prove exactly when you acquired them.
But, it doesn't seem like mags need to be registered (except .50s).

Thanks,
I'm confident this mess will eventually be overturned but who knows when. I'm not really worried as the local sheriff office already said they have no intention of enforcement but I'm not taking any chances . Hard to comply with what no one understands .

As I understand accessories don't individually have to be disclosed (features of the disclosed firearm ) as long it all stays together on there. I'm not clear on that either.

Do they expect us to hire a lawyer to decipher the riddle or what.

This state isn't the best...

On the published ordinance, pages 83-85, or close, have flow charts to use to determine if your gun is, in fact, an AW. Simple to use.
