The good news:

My wife and I found out on Monday (6/5/06) that she is pregnant. Baby "X" is our first and is due sometime in mid-February '07. Please say and prayer and keep us in your thoughts.

The bad news (gun-related):

We went into Babie R US tonight (Greenville, SC) to start looking around. On the way in I noticed the sign that read: No firearms allowed on the premises. The sign looked like some "family-friendly" corporate sign and NOT a South Carolina Law Enforcement (SLED) approved sign, which basically means you can carry in there with a permit.

It seems to me that a store with small children, pregnant women, and eldery folks (the grandparents), would prefer that law-abiding citizens add another layer of protection.

I told my better half I was never going back in there, but I quickly was shot down.:(

Your thoguhts?

congrats on the baby news !!!!! prayers sent !!!!!

stand your grond and do not support the stores trying to keep permit holders out.

Congrats! :D :D Our son is almost a year now...it goes REALLY fast. Good luck and hope all is well. BTW, the last couple weeks are real tough. As for the store, concealed means concealed. Up here, we have very few places with signs like this. It's ironic, but I saw more of these signs in Texas than here in CT.

Babies R Us

Avoid this place like the plague......Way overpriced......Lot's of expensive stuff for pregnant women to buy, they have to have the best.......No matter what you buy the Baby will outgrow it or stain it or poop on it or lose it......Babies grow like mold on moist bread......You can find 98% of what you'll need can be found at Costco, garage sales and second hand stores, for a much better price than Babies R Us.......

Now go back to Babies R Us and get ready to spoil that baby.........Good luck

First, eh. He he. Then you have no idea what's coming your way. Your life is going to change in ways you cannot imagine.

Congratulations!

Baby items are invariably overpriced. Still, you'd be amazed at how generous we become when it's buying for the kid(s).

It's only the beginning. It gets worse when nesting instinct kicks in. Good luck!

Congrats and prayers on the good news.

As others have said, concealed is concealed. With 2 grown kids and 5 grand kids I think I can safely say - if momma's not happy, no body is happy. Let her shop where she wants. :D

How exactly do you pronounce "mbs357"? :D Congratulations Sportcat. Your life ia about to get unimaginably more complicated and frustrating (as well as unimaginably more rewarding). Go buy that new shooter his or her first gun, and put it in a nice presentation case with their name on a brass plaque. Store it away carefully for that wonderful day in the future when they have proven their ability to receive it.

My daughter's is an S&W model 15, I hope to give it to her soon...

+1.
You will wind up with so much useless baby stuff anyway. People lose their heads when shopping for babies. My 8 month son has more clothes than I do, and he'll outgrow them all within the next 2 months.

Oh, and Congrats.

Congrats! My wife and I had our first in March of '04. Let me tell you, your life will never be the same. You two should go off and enjoy eachothers company and bask in your aloneness.

I can’t remember if the one in Cincinnati has a sign if it did I “didn’t see it” as Ohio still needs a little ironing out of their CCW laws (in Kentucky & Indiana if it become unconcealed they can only ask you to leave in Ohio it’s a misdemeanor or felony). As has been said concealed means concealed I carried more when we were pregnant and since the boy is approaching 5 months than I did before and my personal threshold for “lethal force” use broadened a little. Boiled down to “if you are a serious threat to my born/unborn child your life is in far more immediate danger from me.” Babies-R-Us (aka grandparents Disneyland) both grandmothers spend 4 hours together dragging my expectant wife looking at everything not to mention buying enough to cover the debt of a small 3rd world nation.
Enjoy being pregnant, bank up on sleep and protect those two. FWIW if always felt that non-legally binding signs were more there to ameliorate the liberals than discourage me from carrying.
BTW- people complaining about your hungry/screaming child while in the checkout line are more annoying than the child itself and if they happen to see the butt of a pistol they become instantly less belligerent. Not that I advocate brandishing but if my shirt rides up while I’m reaching forward to console my child I’m just so sorry about that:evil:

  • Congratulations!
  • The Holy crap, I'm gonna be a dad!:D / Holy crap, I'm gonna be a dad!:uhoh: is perfectly natural. It'll last until the kid is born, then everything changes.
  • Seconhand stores, Goodwill, and discount grocery stores are your friends. We Be Babies will suck you dry if you let them.
  • Concealed is concealed.
  • Congratulations!

Contratulations. You should get a bunch of camouflaged baby clothes and put little NRA stickers on them before taking the younin's to Babies R Us. Nothing says freedom like desert digital dirty diapers.

My best advice to you is for your wife to find the local "mommy boards" on the internet for your area. This will be invaluable for advice. You also want experianced info on what a baby will need, what's indespensible, and what's just fluff designed to separate nervous first-time parents from thier money. You also want to do this to help find play groups.

My two biggest pieces of advice?

Buy, steal, copy, whatever you have to do, a set of "Baby Einstien DVD's".

Don't waste your money on a big high-chair. Get one of those plastic booster seats with a tray, that straps onto a regular kitchen chair. Until he/she can sit up on his/her own, just feed them in the bouncy seat. Cheaper and easier.

Check yard sales, the mommy board's discussion forums, and Craigslist for everything used you can find. There's tons of things like clothes that your kid will literaly use once before he/she grows out of them. Baby resale shops can be good, however they can still be high priced compared to private sales.

You'll also want to sell stuff to make the dough to buy the next stuff.

Ask me how I know... :D

Show the link to your wife. You'll both feel better knowing you have just one on the way. And even if it's twins, you'll still feel better it's only one set of twins. :)

I've always been irritated at WI's lack of CCW, but now that I've got a family, I find it downright infuriating...

Sportcat I have to agree with what AJ posted. My wife and I are expecting our first child in September. We have been able to pickup close to $600 in baby stuff for around $60 just from garage sales and http://craigslist.com. The only thing we have been buying new is some bedding and a few other misc things. I also started shopping for Juniors first gun. I am planning on turning one of my prized 10/22s into a kid gun with lightweight stock and barrel.
