I'm interested in selling a large portion of my guns and ammo. I've had two heart attacks and just don't think I'll ever be able to use them any more. I have the inventories on Excel spreadsheets. I need someone reputable that would be interested in buying them all, and am not interested in selling them piecemeal. During the last few weeks I've taken a turn for the worse and just don't want to leave this task up to my wife in case the worst happens.

Thanks

Big Bill,

Sorry to hear about your health and situation. There should be plenty of reputable folks on here from Idaho. I will gladly buy collections but I'm a non FFL in MO so it would be a bit difficult to pull off without using an FFL in both states. In your case I would suggest finding a legitimate shop and consigning these items or an auction might not be a bad idea. Guns are doing quite well at auctions around here. Also on your medical situation---always get a second opinion!

Big Bill, where do you live? I know a couple of "private parties" in the Boise area who might be interested, depending on what you want to sell.

I suggest getting a qualified gun appraiser involved so you know what your working with money wise.

He should be able to give you a retail and wholesale value.
I would not sell to the same guy that does the appraisales though.

Might was well get a list and post it in the Buy Sell area of the thread. You will get as much or more selling that way as you would selling to a "re-seller".

Ammo is even easier because you can just ship it, don't have to worry about ATF forms.

you could list them on www.ksl.com too. Its a salt lake website that has a classifieds section that is really good. I'm sure if the price was good someone might be willing to go up there. IT would be worth a try

Isn't there a shop called Red's in Idaho (Twin Falls, I believe)? Can't remember but I think I bought something from them off gunbroker.com a couple of years back. They claim they're always looking to buy/trade firearms - they may be worth a look.

LW - I live in Burley.

Big Bill,

Here's wishing you many happy years ahead and my compliments for having the foresight to take care of your collection before it becomes someone else's responsibility. I've known collectors that took your route, I've helped them with their knife collections, and I've know the survivors who on top of their grief had to deal with leftovers of their spouse's hobby. You're a good guy.

That said, do you have a local shop with a gunsmith that you've dealt with happily that could advise you?

hso - I have a good friend locally that owns a gun shop that I have dealt with for years. He has my list and is helping me.

Third Eagle - I know the guys at Red's in Twin Falls and have talked to them. They just want me to load up everything and go over there. But, I'm to weak to do it.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, man.

Maybe a dealer in your area would take everything on a consignment basis. You just drop it all with him and he sells it. Let him earn his 15% and you just deposit the checks as they come in. Very little effort or concern on your part.

It's very hard to find a buyer for a whole collection unless you are willing to sell for 50% of value. Then you have to deal with shipping and that's a BIG PITA.

Bill,

Sorry to hear this news. I hope someone local will step up and really help you get through this.

Regards,

lpl

I don't know if these people work outside of Ohio, but they buy collections at estate sales and have online auctions:

Gunrunner
(440) 834-0160

Burton, OH 44021

Best of luck.

Sir, I am sorry to hear about your health issues. Plus I am sorry you feel that you need to sell them all.

I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for all your concerns. I'm due to get LapBand surgery next month. But, around New Years I caught this virus that has turned me for a loop. I'm on antibiotics now, but just hope I can get well enough to have the surgery. Both heart attacks I had were while hunting and it took so long to get to the hospital that alot of damage was done to my heart before they got to me.

I've been very active all my life and have a big family. I've got seven daughters and five sons. They are all good kids. At least, I think so.

I was a DELL tech for several years and during that stressful time I gained a lot of weight. A short time after leaving DELL I had my first heart attack. I was way out in the toolies with my 11 year old and our dog hunting pheasents. I as about a mile from the truck when it hit, and somehow made it back to the truck, loaded my son and the dog and then drover about 20 miles to the hospital.

I don't really have to sell the guns as we don't have much in the way of bills (a $600 house payment is all). We own all our cars and everything else. But, I know it would be overwhelming for my wife to deal with the gun situation when I die. So, after doing lots of thinking, I decided to go ahead and sell most of them.

I'm going to keep a couple of my handguns, my two Ruger 10-22s, and my 12 gage Winchester Defender, etc.

So, from the bottom of my heart - thanks to everyone.

Big Bill, I know it's none of my business, but perhaps set something aside as a legacy for your children? I know when my father eventually makes the "journey" his guns will mean a lot to me. Not that they are anything special, but because they are part of who and what he is. Also, keep your chin up, and RECOVER!!!

Im sorry to hear of your health issues and wish you the best recovery.

If I could ask, what would be wrong with listing them locally for a while and then selling off the leftovers as a lot. I believe you could make more money off of several single transactions vers one larger transaction.

Anyway, take care of yourself.

If I were one of your boys, I'd want some or all of our guns. Have you checked with them to see if they do? Sounds like at least one son liked to hunt with you. I wish I was in Idaho to help. Best of luck. We'll keep you in our prayers.
