I'm thinking of adding a Ruger MK IV to the collection

The one thing I didn't care for on my MKIV was the ambi safety it was a distraction on my trigger finger, but Ruger make it easily delete-able with included parts. Good on Ruger to not have a one size fits all and provide the parts.

That's the beauty of the Ruger Mark series. They can be customized to your heart's content. There's a vibrant aftermarket industry to supply parts. And Ruger made the changes evolutionary, so that older parts can be retrofitted. You can mix and match from the various models.

The stock Mark IV trigger has a nub that engages a notch on the magazine, raising the magazine to the fully inserted position as the trigger is pulled, in case it has not been fully inserted. This is just weird, and unnecessary. It has to affect the crispness of the trigger pull. That alone is reason to ditch the stock trigger.

I've got a couple of Mark IV 22/45s. One's a Target and one's a Lite. I like 'em both, but for different reasons. The Target is more accurate (as it should be), but the lite came with a threaded barrel, so I can stick my suppressor on the end.

I always wanted a 10” Mk II, but when those went the way of the (expensive) dodo bird I waited until the Mk IV came out and bought one in April of 2020 (No one was price gouging for these…yet.)

I did to the Volquartsen trigger/internals swap, since the out of the box Mk IV trigger did not compare to my nicely broken in Mk II Govt. Target models’ trigger. I added JA Steiner thumbrest grips and also did the Volquartsen enhanced firing pin and extractor, too.

When I saw Volquartsen was selling new 5.5” bull barrel uppers for $25 bucks (sans bolt), I bought one. (Ruger Mk series pistol uppers are serialized rather than the lowers, so these have to go through a ffl.) I bought another new bolt, added the pin/extractor, and now I have one amazingly comfy lower with two uppers that I can swap out to completely change the gun in about ten seconds. (If they offer them again I may even buy another one and scope it.)

And with its 6.5” Mk II Govt. Target Model cousin.

IMHO, they really are cool little pistols.

Stay safe.

MKIVs are fine 22s, but read more than a few posts here and realize that many of us have upgraded the trigger. IMO, it's a junky trigger for a relatively spendy 22LR. Having said that, it's truly a dream to shoot once upgraded. I have the Hunter, and that Target model is excellent as well.

They offer them pretty regularly, and in fact have them right now: https://volquartsen.com/inventory_configurations/3950?clearance=1
