I'm thinking of getting a Ruger 22/45 MK IV. For those of you who have them, what do you think of them? Are they ammo-sensitive? (I have a 10/22, and so far, the only round I've found that it will cycle properly is the CCI Mini-mag.) I have a lot of .22 ammo lying around, and would like to get a pistol to take advantage of it.

I've had no problems with my two 22/45 lights. It is sensitive to ammo as for as accuracy goes. The best groups are with CCI Standard Velocity (either lead or plated). It shoots a and functions with most other CCI ammo. Haven't really tried the other brands or those multi-hundreds round special deal stuff.

I have a Mark IV 22/45 Lite, and a Target upper to pop on it. Mrs. McGee had a Mark IV Target, but we sold it. We don’t have a huge round count through them, I’d guess less than 2k for both combined, but both run well. Neither is finicky about ammo, and reasonably accurate for me. I’m likely the limiting factor on accuracy, TBH.

To answer the OP’s question: I like them very much. They run like they should, and Inhave a ball shooting them.

I have thousands of rounds through mine with quite a few types of ammo. There have been no issues so far and I do clean it after each range trip, which I'm sure helps. I'd recommend picking one up.

I have the target and it shoots anything I load it with except Winchester which is strictly the ammo's fault. High or standard velocity works the same with the slower being more accurate. Isn't the upper the same for both models? I have a MK III lite and it does the same as the target.

I have had several Ruger 22/45 and they were not ammo sensitive at all, would eat anything in put in them. Unless there is a issue with the gun, you should be good to burn through any 22LR ammo you have.

None I've owned were ammo sensitive in terms of function...but then again, none of the 10/22's I'd ever owned were either. You should get that sorted out so you can truly enjoy it.

I don't know what's wrong with it. I took the gun apart and cleaned it until it was as clean as a whistle, and the magazine is a brand new Ruger 10-rounder. But it won't feed lead bullets or standard velocity loads. The bolt pushes them about half-way out of the magazine, and then stops.

I haven't found any ammo that my Mark IV 22/45 doesn't shoot well except for Aguila Super Extra. I had two cases blow out with it and won't shoot any more. I normally shoot CCI Mini Mags in the winter but summertime it gets CCI Blazer. Same ammo as Mini Mags but the bullets have not been plated.

Over 20K rounds and only the two problems with the Aguila so feel confident that yours will work.

I'm a tinkerer so I put a Volquartsen trigger kit into it, Carolina Crusher compensator and StonerCNC grips.

The only problems I've had with my 22/45 have been ftf with cheap ammo, I.E.Thunderduds and Winchester Wildcat. Blazer, CCI, Armscor, Aguila, Norma Tac, S&B, have all worked fine in it.

i have a ruger mark4 (not 22/45) and sr22. i just got a keltec p17 and took them all out to the shooting range last night. first rounds for the p17, already 2,000 for the mark4 and 20,000 for the sr22. ammo was cci (minimag and blazer), aguila super extra, federal automatch. one federal stovepiped in the mark4. a friend has a mark4 22/45 lite, which also eats anything.

the generic problem with the ruger mark series is it’s a rabbit hole of customization. my own problem is that i’m more accurate with the out of the box ready p17 and sr22.

i got a great deal on the mark4, which i wanted because my first significant pistol experience was on the original mark1 50+ years ago. in retrospect the mark4 22/45 lite is the better pistol of the two. o.p., i would not dismiss the p17 or sr22, which are both much handier to carry.

That's not right. Call Ruger.

Mine developed the same problem last week. Cleaned it very well same problem. Switched to hi velocity ammo problem solved. I fired about 3k rounds thru it, let it sit in the cabinet for about a year, then this problem. I enjoy figuring out problems like this so I won't be calling Ruger just yet. It's an excellent firearm otherwise

Have loved the 22/45 since the idea came about. The MKIV design I have long said whoever came up with it I hope he made BIG bank, he deserves to. The idea was SOOOO much better.
Now ammo? Mine only gets fed the "better stuff" as I long ago gave up buying the cheap stuff. From what I have seen if any newer MK will not feed well the extractor is the first place to try after you have tried more than one mag. They make an after market one that last I looked was something like $10. A LOT of people who had a MKII or later that did not seem to want to feed found that as soon as they replaced the extractor suddenly the pistol just worked. So if you get one and it seems picky? That is a cheap thing to try that often fixes the problem.

Does it cycle other HV plated ammo at all or just mini mags?

Check and see if you have an optics mount screw protruding too far and interfering. If one did did be the last two screws on the receiver. Sometimes the return spring coils can get jacked up and cause the cycle action to fail.
