Tests with Imbel IA2, a FAL rotating bolt 5.56 carbine, sold to the Army and civilians, made by Brazilian Air Force(that uses the SiG 552), revealed this results( are they good?):
The test was carried out by the Hexacampeão Brasileiro de IPSC Vagner Brum, aiming to observe several aspects of the weapon's performance, respecting the interval of 10 minutes every 300 shots, an end of refrigerator or system, as the type of test is foreseen.
After 2,500 shots, the first Cook off occurred and the same situation occurred 5 more times during the test.
After a sequence of 2,500 shots, a 200m precision measurement was performed, with 86.666% of the events in target type P3 being completed.
At 2,810 shots, the hand guard melted in its front part and detached itself from the weapon, being replaced by a new piece.
After 2,810 shots, the selector switch was difficult to activate due to the heating of the weapon.
At 3,260 shots, the bolt broke in half, on the cam pin, being replaced by another bolt
At 3,810 shots or hand guard melted again, requiring further replacement.
After 4,150 shots the bolt, remained at the rear, not allowing new feeding, and unused means were used to unlock or bolt and perform new ammunition feed in the chamber.
After 4,350 shots, a case remained housed in the chamber, not allowing new feeding, being necessary or used with a tool to extract the case.
At 4,600 rounds the breech box cover broke on the piston rod flange (plunger)
After 6,000 shots, the life of the barrel was measured, with a precision test of 200m, and it was observed that the accuracy reached a rate of 16,666%, with a deficit of 70% in relation to the first measurement, even though the interval was respected. 10 minutes every 300 shots, in order to cool the system.
The text also says that a great part of the specialized national media, in order to gain money: "they hastened to extol the IA2 rifle as a robust, reliable, modern and durable weapon for our armed forces and police, many even citing that it had been tested for more than 15,000 rounds and had been superior to other rifles on the market. " and: "The photos show all the circumstances mentioned, except Cook off, which will only be possible to capture through the test footage, and which was not carried out, but make it clear that the rifle is well below the 90% operational index required by the Basics Requirements (ROB) N ° 07/10-EME of December 3, 2010, of the Brazilian army, and the Joint Operational Requirements (ROC) of the Armed Forces N ° 3,885 / MD of December 15, 2011, for development / acquisition of a new Rifle for the armed forces, in addition to being clearly inferior to other Rifles established on the international market in "robustness", quality, modernity, durability, reliability ...
