ISRA Alert:
YOUR HELP URGENTLY NEEDED – CALIFORNIA GUN CONTROL GROUP TO HOLD ANTI-GUN RALLY IN NAPERVILLE

The San Francisco-based “Legal Community Against Gun Violence” (LCAV) will be holding a gun control

rally in Naperville on Monday, April 14, 2008.

The LCAV plays a crucial supporting role in Chicago Mayor Daley’s attempts to take your guns away from

you. California lawyers write the actual legislation designed to ban and confiscate your guns, tax your

ammunition, ration your ammo purchases and register you like a sex offender.

It’s time for Illinois gun owners to tell these Californians, “MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!”

Here is what you need to do:

1. Gather up all your firearm owning friends and assemble at the Naperville Campus of NIU, 1120 East

Diehl Road, Room 101C, Naperville, IL. The campus is on the south side of Diehl Road, approximately 1/8

mile west of Naper Boulevard. Plan on arriving no later than 6:45 PM.

2. If you still have your iGOLD t-shirts or hats, wear them. If you have NRA or ISRA hats, wear them.

DO NOT bring signs or other items that might get you kicked out before this thing gets under way.

3. Be advised that you will be in close proximity to people that hate your guts because you own guns.

They will attempt to insult you and provoke you. Stand your ground, challenge their every assertion.

Freedom is at stake here.

4. Please distribute this alert to all your gun owning friends and post it to every Internet bulletin

board to which you belong.

STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS IN HONOR OF CHARLTON HESTON’S MEMORY!

Do you know if there will be any type of pre-event organization or meeting on "our" side?

:D

One good thing. It'll get some of them out of California for a while. Now let's see. . . which range do I want to go to while they're gone? Decisions, decisions.

We have enough of "them" in the area already. :D Hopefully they won't mate with ours and create a more virulent strain of "them."

Seriously, it would be nice if those that could spare the time would get together earlier than the fifteen minutes before the meeting. A real quick down and dirty discussion/prep session in case we are interviewed would go a long way in helping our cause. I suppose the media will do their utmost to filter out the most professional and well spoken amongst us anyway.

<tinfoil hat> ... :uhoh: The only reservation I had was about disarming before heading into the dark lands of Illinois (I'm from Indiana). I probably wouldn't even be allowed on campus with my folding knife in my pocket. They also closed down a whole college campus this past week because of "credible" threats made that there would be killings on 4/14 at that campus (not this one where the meeting is taking place). Taking all that into account and having your tinfoil hat on straight, you can see where the reservations would come into play.</tinfoil hat>

Yeah, sorry about that. It is kind of like being glad the wind blew your garb. . .er, leaves onto your neighbor's lawn.

Canada's nice this time of year. Maybe they'd like it there. Or England, they'd find lots of nice folks to meet that they have stuff in common with. Maybe they could completely lose themselves in teatime.

"Oh my, we were going to protest, but LOOK at the time!"

Or maybe a random outbreak of logic or a driveby attack of intelligence.

Be interested to hear if that in fact happens. If so it would be very very different from igold at Springfield.

I don't know how the pro gun side will be organized, I was just passing on what was emailed to me. I imagine the ISRA will have a few folks to speak on our behalf.

I know I am not the most eloquent and I know that I would most likely choke once on camera. Still, it would be nice to have a little pre-battle pep talk, "check our shoelaces and make sure our ties are on straight." I'll be preparing on my own anyway and hopefully there will be more eloquent persons there that will make it on-air. I hope someone has an extra IGOLD shirt.

BTW ... opinions on wearing this shirt (if I can't get a hold of an IGOLD shirt)?

I'm gonna try and look....

normal, if I can get someone to cover for me. I so wanna be there. I know the media will be there to cover the anti's if 2 or more assemble. I was at a town meeting with Tony Peraica thurs? nite and he detailed so much corruptionin Cook co politics i had to :barf:. The Cook co board budget is 3.2 billion, of which the largest portion is 800M for healthcare. To contrast, the Chicago public school budget is over 5billion:eek: and they "graduate" almost 27%:cuss: I asked him about gun control (present legislation pending) and he says nothing will get passed before November as pol know it's poison, he referenced Larry Suffredin's loss in primary (for State's Atty) and his recent 12th hour flip-flop on sales tax increase.:fire: It's completely out of control here and tonight could be a powder keg.

The results

Here's the only mention I could find of the Naperville ICPGV forum in Naperville last night. Unfortunately, I could not make it. Apparently well over a hundred of us did.
First, here's the suburban Daily Herald's faux-news article of the 11th blatantly advertising on behalf of the forum:

http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=171354

"The forum will focus on ways residents can help reduce gun violence and state legislation the organization is pushing in Springfield, Young said."

Then, on the 15th, the Herald ran a follow up article by the same reporter, Jake Griffin, who had so enthusiastically endorsed attending the forum on the 11th:

http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=172897
"Gun control advocates held a forum in Naperville Monday night to lobby for two pieces of state legislation they believe would reduce firearm-related violence.
They were met by a largely pro-gun crowd of roughly 100 people who attacked the Illinois Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence leadership's positions, arguing the proposals would make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to obtain firearms."

Given the Herald's previous problems with math and counting crowds, one would tend to assume there were well over a hundred pro-gun attendees, although I have not been able to locate any other reports to substantiate any number.
Later in the article came the most interesting line. The disappointed journalist was unable to come right out and say that the anti-gun people were overwhelmed in numbers (if not argument), but to put a little fig leaf on the "fairness" concept, it included some comment by a "local" who was surprised so few anti-gun people showed up.
Undeterred, the reporter did hammer the ICPGV talking points again, including the Virginia Tech victim.
Please, if anyone was there and can give a more accurate telling of this event, it should be interesting.
The normally fiercely anti-gun major news outlets in town, the Chicago Tribune and WBBM-AM NewsRadio 780, which nearly always feature any anti-gun "rally" very prominently, have not come across with anything that I've been able to find so far.

Hello I'm new here. I stopped in to see if anyone passed the word about last nights meeting.

I attended. The press coverage was slanted towards the left (as usual)

According to NIU security personnel the rooms seating capacity is app 185.

The attendance for The ISRA and interested Pro 2nd amendment parties was app 150. The antis and hosts of the event could have totaled no more than 10 people.

It was a complete route! Pro gun entirely. We have a battle up here in Illinois and meaning no disrespect to THR or it's members. We need to get more organized. If your interested in current events and alerts. Please look to the ISRA web site for current details such as the event that happened last night. The discussion form for illinois events and other comments are located at :http://illinoiscarry.com/forum/index.php?

There are more details about last night and some pictures in the politics section.

Need less to say I had a great chuckle last night seeing how frustrated the organizers were once they realized they were out numbered by at least 15 to 1. It was also great to see such a great showing of gun owners considering the warning that was given at step 3 of the announcement.
3. Be advised that you will be in close proximity to people that hate your guts because you own guns.

They will attempt to insult you and provoke you. Stand your ground, challenge their every assertion.

15 to 1 It was great to feel the love of gun owners! We took a major step last night for northern Illinois. I just hope it keeps up.

The best coverage I've seen or read was Channel 7's reporting on the story. It talked about gun control advocates being met by a large and vocal group of pro-gun-rights "activists" that made their position clear. I thought that was as balanced as I've heard as far as Chicago-area news reporting on gun issues.
