Indoor Ranges

Fortunately, a commercial range is coming to the town I live near.
Standing Wolf ... care to elaborate? I keep hearing rumors of an indoor range near the Springs, but none seem to materialize (and as that stupid Powerball hasn't paid off yet, I can't open one myself)

I've seen the ".17 HMR Not Allowed" sign at several ranges near me, too. No steel core, but steel case is OK. Percussion is allowed if you don't use grease ("It wrecks my brooms").

Kramer Krazy- The guy's name was Shawn. He was shooting a .50 Desert Eagle for the first time which, from what I hear, had an trigger pull that was a little too light. He fired the first shot, gun rolled backwards toward his face during recoil and he accidently fired a second shot. What made it worse was that his fiance was at the range with him that day.

My local indoor range is pretty good about calibers...

Although the last time I had my Desert Eagle there, the owner asked me to hurry up and finish. Something about the concussion unnerving the customers in the other lanes. Oops.

No centerfire rifles here, no AP or tracer/incindiary stuff, as far as I know, sky's the limit with pistols. Just don't try to sneak a TC Contender in in like .308 or something. ;)

No shooting any closer than 75 feet and no full metal jacked bullets.... :( This is why I use the outdoor range only.

What's with the no 17MHR ? Not that I like the cartridge... but what is it about it that they don't allow? Too fast?

My gun club has a limit of

Pistol calibers only and no magnums. Rifles are limited to 22 caliber.
We origionally started with no magnum loads and lead bullets only then we changed the backstops to the new snail drum traps and now we can shoot jacketed bullets but still no magnums but its more for shooting comfort to avoid blast and noise by members vote. Rifles remain at 22's only. If we want to shoot magnum pistols or rifles we have an outdoor 25/50 yard pistol range and a 100/200 yard rifle range. We also have a 25 yard plinking range(oh yea recent rule change no shothuns on plinking range for some reason, also no full auto on any range.) as well as a 3D archery range with "game trail". And a full trap field as well as a sporting clays setup. Not bad for $75 a year. This allows you to full use of every range from about 7am until dusk 7 days. The indoor range is avaiable 24/7 to all members. guests are allowed with a $5 guest fee. Best deal I found in 2 states!

Mine's great.
(Partially quoted from BluesBear)
Unlimited handgun caliber
Centerfire rifle up to .50 BMG
Shotgun Slugs only.
No Blackpowder guns, though.
Any ammo except AP or tracer.
Brass case, steel case, aluminum it don't matter.
Rapid fire is OK.
Open 365 days a year, 24/7.
Great ventilation.
Heated, quite nicely.

Just a little over 25 yards though.

I was in there earlier today shooting the Mosin M44. :)

Two ranges. One only for handguns. The other one is open to all rifle and hangun calibers.
No steel core ammo.
You can rent handguns and full auto rifles at the range.
Good ventilation.
No restrictions on aluminum or steel case ammo.

JRW - I was sorry to hear of Shawn and his unfortunate accident at Shooter's Choice. My father told me about it after it happened (he lives in Columbia and shoots there fairly often). I did not know about Shawn's fiance being there. That must have truely sucked. I hope his friends and family are doing better since then.

I don't go to any indoor ranges near where I live. None of them have a halfway decent safety policy.

The last straw was when I had to shoot next to a gangsta wannabe who shot two Glock 17s at once, one in each hand, held sideways. He put at least 2 rounds into the ceiling by the time I could get out of there.

Any handgun caliber up to and including 44 Mag. No 454 Casull but a 45 Colt case can be stuffed and packed and they will only look up at the concussion. Longguns can be chambered in a handgun cartridge and those are OK. Only the police depts can use shotgun.

They are the ones that do the magnet test on your ammo for the rifle range. Wolf fails all the time as do most of the animal brands except Cheetah.
Interesting. I did not know that there was any steel core rifle ammo still on the market except in very limited quantities at collector's pricing. Priced at about a $1 a round in this area, if it can be found at all.

The currently available Wolf rifle ammo, and the animals, are steel cased and the bullet has a bi-metal jacket but it is a lead core. What is the range against? Steel cases?

like someone else said earlier, red's in austin is pretty good, although a little pricey. I believe their website says something like "any caliber you can shoulder, you are allowed to shoot."
