Is there such a thing as an inexpensive double barrel shotgun? I've seen Pedersoli shotguns around, but that's a bit out of my pricerange... just about double what I'd like to spend.

Anything from 10 to 20 gauge, double barrel, percussion, wood stock of any kind. I just want to make a howdah pistol as they're not available to buy, so the condition of the barrels/stock as from the factory doesn't really matter that much.

Sounds like a sweet project!!! I'd love to hear about it when you finally have success. I'd also like to find an inexpensive double for hunting birds, just because. But a howdah would be a sweet add to the safe, never thought of making one myself, and they are obviously priced way out of my range.

Anyone at all have leads on where to get a less nice BP shotgun? I really want to make a howdah, but I also don't want to destroy a Pedersoli.

I got my Pedersoli for about $225... and I wouldn't DREAM of chopping it down to a Howdah... new they sell for like $600.

I ran into a unique & decent looking used 12 gauge SXS percussion at a gunshop (about 30 miles away) about 4 months ago or so. It was made in Australia probably in the 1970's or 80's, and it shouldered very nicely. One of the triggers was stiff though. I almost bought it for the $225 asking price, but because I already have a single barrel 12 gauge, I passed it up. It was a very well constructed and sort of heavy duty gun in very good, clean condition. I didn't recognize the name of the builder, maybe it was a smaller outfit that built hundreds, but not thousands of them. And although the nipples seemed a little large, we didn't think that they required musket caps.
The dealer said that it was from an estate, and that another dealer usually shows up once a year and buys all of the muzzle loaders that he accumulates.
But it might still be there sitting on the shelf.
It was Steve's Guns LLC, (860) 871-1987, 623 Talcottville Rd., Vernon, CT 06066, and he seemed like a nice guy.
Ask him if he'll include free shipping to you. ;)

That dbl. flintlock pistol is beautiful. So is the dbl. percussion. I wouldn't mind taking a blunderbuss off their hands, either. They have a new dbl. barrel shotgun coming out , as well. Cool store.

Does anyone think that something like a blunderbuss-type weapon ever existed with a percussion lock?
