I saw a Beretta 471 SilverHawk today. 26" barrels, 12ga. screw-in chokes, pistol grip stock, SxS barrels. Beautiful. The shop wanted $2495 NIB for it. Another shop told me over the phone they would sell it to me for $2050.

??? BIG discrepancy.

Anyway, can anyone tell me about this shotgun? Is it a super gun? It had the automatic safety, which I despise, but I heard I could have someone remove the auto safety connector in it.

I'd really appreciate any info or guidance on this gun. Am I going in the wrong direction? Something else better?

Thanks,
Steve

The first question is what are you looking for. If it is a reliable, durable double gun the Beretta is as good a choice as any in the price range and possibly better. It comes with 3" chambers and with choke tubes you could hunt just about anything with this gun from ruffed grouse to the Canada Geese.

What the Beretta is not is terribly refined. It's heavier than comparable guns, wider in the breach and while it's handling qualities aren't that bad it isn't as dynamic as other double guns. However, to get those qualities you have to spend a lot more.

Dealer costs for a Baretta are 80% of retail. Sounds like the second dealer is operating closer to the bone. I prefer the 28inch barrels....maybe so do most of the customers of the second dealer. I just like the balkance of the longer barrels better. They both come up beautifully. But then thats true of most Barettas.
