Hi,
Long-time lurker here. I've tried the google but came up short.
I inherited a rifle I grew up with- a Universal M1 carbine. It is an older model with the GI style trigger group so I assume it's one of the better-made ones, but my Father had some modifications made to it back in the late 90s (rear sight replaced with an S&K scope mount and an Armsport 1.5-4.5x32 scope and a mil-surplus stock) that probably lowered it's value.
I'm not looking to restore this to it's original condition because I am not convinced that it's worth the cost/effort. I don't plan on getting rid of it either, I wanted to keep it in the family. I wanted to try to find a replacement rear sight and original side-mounted scope mount if it will work with the older receivers.
Any idea if this optic is worth keeping? I can't find a model number and it seems to be okay glass but can't decide if I should even put optics back on the carbine or just run the iron sights. Can anyone think of anything I may not have considered? Thanks
