Question: is it legal for private parties from different states to privately sell/buy a long gun in a face to face transaction without an FFL being involved in the transfer? I've read different opinions about this on the internet boards.

Must go through at least one FFL.

You can send it to an FFL in the buyer's state or bring it there to transfer.

Some FFLs will not receive a rifle from out of state from anyone other than another FFL. Not against Federal law they just don't want to do it.

You also need to check state laws in both states.

No!!!

You can still meet FTF you just need to do it at an FFL counter and have them process the paperwork. It doesn't matter which state you meet in (as long as it's a legal transaction in the state).

From BATFE: "A nonlicensee may not transfer a firearm to a non-licensed resident of another State."

So the answer is NO. If a seller and buyer meet face to face at a dealer's place of business, the dealer is "handling the transfer" just as if the gun had been shipped to him by carrier. For a handgun, the dealer must be in the buyer's state.
