Of course you are correct. My comment was from my perspective being a person who owns a gun for self defense only. I do know lots of folks who are gun hobbyists and love owning and shooting guns. More power to them. In the future I will keep in mind that I am a bit narrowly focused when it comes to gun ownership. That is for the wake-up call.
I was just joking man! say what you want, don’t hold back. On some of my thread “.Hot .38 Special load” we were looking to get .38 Special as hot as possible for self defense and such…. how about this:

I apologize for coming off as unappreciated of your comment on self-defense

We all got our own thing(s) we focus on. @mcb is all about IDPA or USPS or whatever that mouse fart .38 competition thing he does is with moonclips. Me, I'm mostly about hunting and protecting the property from predators - mostly four-legged. I think most or maybe nearly all in the revolver and semi-auto handgun forums share your interest: concealed carry. Strange enough though, most people who focus is CCW are NOT big-time handloaders. Some taboos about reloads and CCW are based in law and some are based in gossip. I don't know which is which since all of this garbage with communist state AG's and prosecutors has grown like a wildfire. I remember a time when using a gun to stop a mob from burning down a neighborhood got you a medal, not an indictment.

By the way, I am NOT a fan of snub-nose .357 magnums. If you want a snubby, get a .38S&W or .38Spl, at most.

I think this is something we all forget from time to time. The great thing about firearms is the wide variety of uses. From black powder primitive weapons to the latest and greatest polymer wonders, we can shoot for fun, self defense, competition, or any other reason we like. Some people are revolver fans, some semi-auto, while others gravitate toward bolt action rifles, lever action, ARs, or single shots. Still others are shotgun aficionados. We all bring a different perspective to the table.

I like it!!!

don’t forget collectors

WOW, I'm 1 of the KOOL kids every 40 years, this just proves life goes full circle. To bad I'll have to wait 40 more years to be KOOL again. By then I'll be, well dust on some ones windshield.

I must of missed the 357 memo. Was at the range yesterday shooting a 9mm's in a 100+ year old pistol design, the1911. Along with a ruger MK IV 22/45 that I bought earlier this year that shots 22lr that 1st came out in the 1870's.
"dust on someone's windshield"

True but I do overpay for primers but it's still way cheaper than buying ammo.
100%! I’m not buying primers yet, still have plenty, but I’m buying every flavor of .357/38 and .451 bullets. Also buying brass, powder, extra dies

I have so much 9mm .356, I need to repurpose them

No! 357 is not the new 9mm. It is the old 357. Just as 9mm is the old 9mm. Bullet size means nothing. Bullet design means everything provided that the bullet is driven by the right powder load. I EDC 9mm with 124 g Federal HST. It will get job done. If I we are to focus in power we need to consider 50 caliber revolvers and wrist braces. I believe this. Speed to being able to shoot and accuracy of shot placement are critical and capacity is important because a gunfight is not bound by the law of averages when it comes to rounds expended.

1942 Bull- Not directed at you- Just quoted as a reference point.

I Understand the “Carry part” as that’s mainly what I seek when purchasing a Old revolver. My most recent was a 7 shot 686. To many people now a days want high capacity.
Why? The Research shows “3 shots-3yards-3seconds” as the average shoot out or gun fight. At what time is a fast reload required, A box of ammo worth of mags needed, semi automatic trigger tripping? In my old school (I’m in early 40s) thought- Shot placement- know what’s behind your target- Is Key. I can reload 7 more rounds pretty quickly, if I need em…. Yet 14 rounds of 357!
To many modern shooters are Watching to many movies-Tv shows. Talk to some old police officers, ask about experience they had… then keep in mind as a cavillian that a carry permit is to get yourself out of a dangerous situation, not stay and fight as a Leo would need to.
I have many carry Revolvers- I have fun shooting them at the range. 357 has reach for Impact on targets at distance if a Odd situation happened , otherwise…. 3yards, itta do fine.

I like Florida, a mix of, get off my property & they taking urr jobs (south park reference) I’m going to move there one day!

hope you guys get Constitutional Carry!
In my area .357 is mostly a belt-holster carry gun. Good for everything from coyotes to wild pigs. Whitetails at under 50 yards but that's pushing it if you don't want to have to follow a blood trail into the thickets. Easier to pack than a Winchester AE or Marlin 336. Some folks claim those new AR snubbies are easier to pack than a belt-holster revolver but, I don't see it. Lots of them AR's are .300BO's with suppressors attached. Makes hearing protection unnecessary so maybe that's the draw? Anyways, CC would be nice I guess for city folks but for me it's kind of a no-go. My employer won't change policies even if it passes.

Keep in mind if you move here, if you see an industrial Kubota it's a good bet the guy at the controls has a S&W 19 or 66 strapped on his belt or a silenced AR in the cab. So it might be wise to keep off their proppity. :)

lol! I don’t go on peoples property! I would only get a suppressor if I was retired and never moving again in a free state. WA is free, but like all of the west, give it time. I’m still deciding on my 1st 357 revolver, probably put a Vaquero on layaway today, until my wife gives me an allowance. Already bought a .357 rifle 2-3 weeks ago. Tell you what… 357 hard cast is the way to go! my local sells them for $33/500

Well, if you believe in the "Rules of the Gunfight", doesn't really matter which handgun you carry......they all server equally well at buying you time to get to your long gun:

Rule 1: Bring a Long Gun
Rule 2: Bring Friends with Long Guns.
Rule 3: Bring extra ammo for you and your friends, and tell them to do the same.

Does make ya wonder-
Why so many police officers reluctantly transitioned from 357 revolvers to the wonder 9 semi.

if I was a cop, or military, or in a combat roll. I would take a 147g 9mm with Hydro Shock doing 1100fps with a Glock 17 MOS with SRO RMR over a revolver all day!

Bud, your way out in left field.
This thread is about the popularity of the 357 coming back a little bit. It's not really about power or anything like that.
Hey bud, this thread may have started out as 357's new popularity, but thread drift has turned it into opinions posted about 9mm, vs 38 Special, vs 357 Magnum, a subject I can remember since I started looking at reloading forrums in 2006...

1901 The Austrian designer, Luger- Produced the 9mm

1914 John Moses Browning made the HiPower

Our Military Preference was 45 caliber for a good long while.

It wasn’t until the 1980s Law Enforcement officers switched over. Hmmm

Skeeter Skelton (Leo) Stated Once- If he had only One firearm, it would be a N Frame w/ a 5” brl.

I don’t Recall George Patton Touting the “Great 9mm” on his side.

All of that Should Tell Us something about the History of both Cartridges.

Drift- Back on course
