Is 5 or 6 really enough in today's world.

So I plan on being able to get home from wherever my car dies. That means a fairly well-stocked backpack in my trunk, along with clothes and footwear appropriate for a multi-day hike.

I have one also. Fire starting. Liquid IV. Knife. Shovel. Compass. Goose down jacket. Contractor trash bags. Etc. Also, a sleeping bag and a case of canned water.

I don’t think that unrealistic at all.

Well, coming from the guy that has two spare tires…

:)

You know they have deep penetrating "bunker busters" now, right?
Wow, total buzz-kill. There I was, sippin' some Pappy Van Winkle and contemplating lighting up my last Habano (a very nice Cuban Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios) ... Well, got a contractor buddy who's got a lotta digging equipment, who knows a guy in the concrete business, and another buddy is real good with ventilation and HVAC stuff...

On a serious note, I've got a great "get home bag" (not a "bug-out bag"), and a prepped boat, as I live in the region where the 10.0 earthquake (tsunami to follow of course) is considered inevitable, sooner than later. Really, if you're living where you are gonna spend the remainder of your days on this mortal plane, you should be prepared for the absolute worst-case scenario. We are.

Oh, and if you have dogs -- one hopes you've got their chow covered as well.

Rather than a get-home bag, I need a second house somewhere away from the big city. I live too close to Detroit, but it could be worse--Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis, NYC, Chicago.

I wonder of those who feel we need to carry 15+1 and spare mags rather than a revolver, do they carry 24/7. If not, then apparently there are times when zero rounds is presumed to be enough.

Trust me when I tell you that Detroit is not a target of Russia, Iran or North Korea (I'm not sure if I should be insulted as I grew up in the metro Detroit area). And they've all watched CNN and MSNBC, they know Seattle, Portland, the Twin Cities and NYC are gonna self-destruct anyway, summer of 2020 memories will live on...

Speaking only for myself, I take my pistol off when the wife and I enter our marital quarters (it does remain nearby on the nightstand, of course, just in case).

Dude, seriously? Never. Let us catch you up. You can now buy a holster mount to go next to your shower door or on your bathroom sink (I also have one on the magazine rack in my little toilet nook).

15 pages.
Wow.

Given none of us can see the future, I’ll just add two more words:

risk assessment

That is like threat assessment; I've got this. ;)

I assess that if I have to defend myself against threat(s) I'd prefer a Glock 22 in hand rather than a snub and I carry accordingly.
Philosophy: Strive to carry a handgun you would prefer in hand to defend yourself with anywhere, everywhere.

Good list. Makes me wonder what about someone who has things like the handicap license plate, hang tag, wheel chair lift on a van, etc. Does that attract the BG?
I don’t carry 2 spare tires but I do carry a 20 volt impact wrench and a roll-around jack.
I don’t want to be 30 minutes on the side of a busy interstate trying to dig out the garbage tire-changing tools that came with the vehicle.

I might add a be little tidbit of information here that I read once.

Nobody in a gunfight ever wished they had less ammunition.
Don't remember who wrote it but it bears repeating.

Considering some of the crime scene reports from the county seat here in York County, Pennsylvania of multiple dozens of shell casings in various calibers being found on the streets and sidewalks following some of the shootings, it may behoove one to carry multiple magazines.

You can add St. Louis to that mix. A masked and armed teen carjacked a man in the parking lot of the Schnuck's grocery store near the corner of Hampton and Chippewa in broad daylight.
And, like Chicago, St. Louis is saddled with yet another Soros-backed "Kim" (Gardiner) as the city's "SJW" DA. :fire:

I'm in the same area as you. One night during the middle of Covid (Maybe December 2020), I was driving from York to Lancaster at maybe 1 am, and had a bizarre experience. First a car appeared to follow me for a time. Then, I pulled in to Lancaster to get gas before heading home. There was a dude in an SUV who got out and tried to talk to me and was being mighty suspicious. I actually started to get into my car and get ready to grab my Glock 19, and he somehow sensed to stop and ceased his approach. The thing is, the two cars weren't the same. The one following me wasn't an SUV. It was like the witching hour or something. The funny thing, I usually never have my Glock 19 on me but instead a .380 pocket pistol or snubby, but the one time I got followed and approached in recent times, I did have a higher cap gun.

As far as York, I carry 90% of the time unless going to a school zone, gov building, etc.
