This isn't really gun related, but I figured I would have some luck here.
Are any of the members of this forum police officers? I am asking because I applied to the local PD here and they accepted my application, now in about a month I have to go take the physical & written test. Either on a Friday or Saturday, whichever date I choose. Then on that upcoming Monday it says
" Oral Board Interview "... I have googled the Oral board interview and found some Youtube videos of questions they ask. They seem to be very in depth thorough questions (for someone who has zero experience in law enforcement, like myself) regarding the law and different scenarios you might encounter while on duty.

Are they all usually like that? I thought you would at least go through the police academy before they ask you stuff like that. I literally have no law enforcement experience.

Sorry I kinda went on and on...Just wanting a little info on this, as I am pretty nervous and would like to do good so I can hopefully get the job.

They don't want to test your law awareness so much as your response.
Try to avoid answering in a manner you know to be blatently unlawful.
Its more about how you react under pressure and how well you can think on your feet.
Some departments allow questions to be asked, especially if it pertains to a law your average layperson wont really know.
Others will just expect a response, what you would think the proper thing to do, aether you've the ability to make snap decisions with little background and will you be a liability for the department.
Pick a response, stay with it, some may try to trip you up to see how well you hold up under pressure.
Your specific answers are not as important as how well you can find a reasonable solution, be assertive yet polite (to a point) and how calm you can
be.
If you choose an answer be prepared to be challenged on why you chose it.
Also know this is another test to try and weed out those that are not compatable with field police work.
No department wants to hire the "bad cop".
Keep in the fore front of your mind the reason you want the job, the only real correct reason is a serious desire to help people.
Any other reason you should consider another career.

The to a point refers to being assertive, not being polite. Stand behind your statements but don't be rude.
You'd think that common sense but.....
Best of luck to you, stay relaxed be honest and odds are you will do okay.

While I wish you the best of luck getting the new job, it's off topic for the board.

Anyone who wishes, feel free to Private Message the OP. :)
