Is the 12 gauge losing it's appeal as a defensive weapon

I quite honestly am not particularly concerned with home invasions really. They are rare to begin with. The vast vast vast majority of them I have seen are of stash houses or other drug/gang related residences. I've seen more hot burglaries , but they are not particularly common.
This is a fact ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The fact you are missing is there are a lot of old country boys that a 12 shotgun is used to the point of being almost an extention of there arms .
Clint Smith from Thunder ranch says know how to run what you got. Their gun hits where they look Which is better A gun you know and can work or a m4 that is not as familiar? also during the worse part of the latest ammo shortage there were all way 12 and 20 ga ammo on the shelf here
Todays standard for measuring power of a firearms FT.LBS of energy put way too much emphasis on speed I may only get one chance I will put my chances on a .73 cal one once slug moving 1200-1500 fps any day of the week over a .223 1/6th of an once bullet moving twice as fast. This is based on 35 years of studying ballistic and shooting things.
Every one wants to bring up the exception to the rule person that soaks up lead and keeps coming that is just that the oddball case . I have one of those stories too .
In states where rifles are legal for deer I shoot a 45-70 bang flop kills many times never had a deer go over one jump from where it was hit I shot a 20 lb dog killing chickens twice through the chest with my der load I still had to track him a quarter mile and shoot him in the head with a 22. (my dog)
Also in close neighborhoods a rifle at least any rifle I would trust for self defence has to much potential for colateral damage

and I don't live in Detroit.

I was raised there, and I'd still grab the 12 before the .223 - although its hard for me to argue this one as a whole, as they are both at my bedside.

My wife keeps a 12 on her side.

The shotgun is so over-rated.

There's no flashider or suppressor available for it (or ever will be) that's worth a hoot. There are .22lr conversion units for the 223 autos, making them a lot more versatile, while saving you a ton of money when you are practicing speed work. Nobody has to hit running rabbits or flying birds. That stuff is all just "I want to do it" sort of thing. All hunting (in the US, at least) is for sport. When you look at the disadvantages for the deadly end, vs these "sport" advantages, the shotgun loses out.

Enough Already! Expect some post to disappear and infractions to be handed out once I have time to deal with this.
