I believe the trigger return on the Elite trigger is faster (resets in a shorter distance than on the standard models). This translates into faster follow on shots. Personally, I would go with the Elite hands down for this reason alone.

you could buy the appropriate parts and get to know your gun better, I can't think of anything the elite has that would be too difficult, perhaps the beveled magazine but how important is that in a non-competition BUG that you probably won't carry with an extra mag. It really depends on your available time, belief in your own handiwork and what features on the elite you like.

this thread has some discussion on the features of the elite.

NO!!!! If you want a reliable, accurate, powerful & compact self defense handgun - get a S&W 642 .38Spl +P. You can get one new for under $400.

If you have money to burn and time to spend hours at the range breaking in and practicing - go ahead and get the Kahr.

If you want a reliable, accurate, simple to operate self defence handgun good to about 50 feet - get the light/small frame/snag free .38 S&W - and carry it ALL THE TIME.

While I don't own a PM9, I do own a Kahr K9 Elite. Love it. The only gun I'd spend more effort to keep is my Rem 870P. (See user name; talk about a nematocyst...)

The Kahr is smooth, reliable, manageable recoil, solid, feels good, fits my hand, etc, etc, yada, yada... check the archives.

But I also own a 642. It's in my coat pocket as I type this.

Love it, too. Lighter than the K9 by 7 oz, easier to put in my pocket for CCW.

Helping to keep my 'hood & me safer.

So, I've got a moderate sized 9 (good enough for me, and up there with the .45 ACP ( :neener: ) AND a 642 for the pocket.

Ah, life is good. Those two guns help keep it so.

Good luck with your choice.

Better not tell my friend that, his MK9 has been accurate and flawless for 1,000rds. I'm buying an MK9, just wanted opinions on the "ELITE" upgrades.

LOL When you are deciding between A and B, invariably there will be those who advise that A and B are not what you want, so buy Z instead (unless of course, you are a fool).

The best reply is "Yes, quite frankly I do have money to burn and time to spend hours at the range breaking in and practicing, so the Kahr sounds exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks!"

The pm9 is pretty smooth (no elite trigger). Maybe not as nice as the elite (assuming the "elite" trigger that is standard on the t9 is the same as mk9 elite), but I didn't shoot htem consecutively. If I was buying one, I think I would still go for the elite mk9 version. But I personally would buy it in a shop so you can see the underside of the slide. Some of them have pretty hard core tooling marks, some are smooth. Either in a shop, or try to get a pic of the inside of the slide before you buy, if those minor cosmetics bother you (don't even see it until you strip it).

When it's b***s up and you need your friend, do you think the Elite or non-elite trigger will make any kind of difference to the outcome?

Never said it would. Until then, it does make shooting more enjoyable.

get a Glock.

just kidding. I had an MK40. it was pretty nice in standard form(wee bit snappy recoil. :p ) but it didn't feed a few different kinds of hollowpoints, but that's not the point. my friend has an MK9 Elite98, and the trigger is *much* nicer. I would recommend the Elite system without a second thought.

I have a K9, and I think the trigger is pretty good as is. I haven't handled an Elite model to know the difference. Sorry. I guess I'm no help at all.

Worth it?

I believe that worth is a relative term... some things are worth more to some folks than they are to others ...

In this case - if you are able to part with the additional funds pleasantly - then Yes - you will probably be very pleased with the outcome.

I am one who prefers the slight upcharge for premium quality.

As a Kahr owner/Carrier, I am certain this is a definite Worth-It to me...

Enjoy the ride - Happy shooting!

Went with the Elite model. The trigger and beveled slide release(stock digs in my thumb during extended range sessions) were the biggest factors. The beveled edges should help with comfort carrying.

I went to the store looking for a Kahr. Once I handled a Smith 638 I purchase it. It shoots very accurate out past 50 ft. I'm a revolver guy though, just my 2 cents.
